Does 285/70/17 spare tire fit under 4runner?

Has anyone successfully managed to fit 285/70/17 tire under 5th gen 4runner sr5? I am putting new duratrac tires on soon and need to know where I should keep the spare full size tire. I have looked at different options:
I know i can buy a rack and put it on there. Only rack i want is gobi stealth with tire mount would cost $1600. I am not ready to spend that much and plus having it on top would hurt mpg little and center of gravity will be off little.
I can mount it on the back if I buy new rear bumper that holds spare. Schrockworks one costs like $1300 or something. So basically I am not ready to spend that much money to carry spare tire.
Fitting it under would be nice, good for mpg and hidden and no extra money spent.
If it ends up not fitting down there my only other cheapest option would be mount it on my cross bars that came with the truck. (unless that wont work)

Yes it will fit. I cleared a 285 Cooper STT Pro in the stock location and I have KDSS. Wasn't a ton of room but I cleared the sway bar. Had it mounted on the factory steel wheel.

Most will be fine, check the recommended rim width from the mfg.

Although not recommended most run the 285's on 7" rim no problem. If it was an issue you would see it all over the forum with all of the 4runners who run 285's with the TRD rims. The issue that may arise is finding a place that will mount them. Big chains tire centers are less likely (especially a place like Costco), but most local shops probably won't have an issue with it.

Is not TRD pro wheel 7.5" not 7.0". I am hearing it was rounding or copy paste error. If it is true 7" width then sounds like I can put duratrac on it and mount it under the truck with no problem. That hitch carrier is great idea.

Nope...7", Trail wheels are 7.5"

Specs:
TRD Pro style Black 17 x 7 Wheel (1) PTR20-35110-BK

Either way you can mount in the original spare area w/o issues (or you will be the first that I know of on the entire forum where it wouldn't)

It definitely fits! I put some duratrac 285/70/17 on my TRDP wheels and they work fine on those 7". After searching this forum and NOT listening to the tire guy at the shop tell me it wouldn't fit, I went ahead and ordered a 5th duratrac 285. I went to another shop and they mounted onto my stock spare wheel and it fit right in there.

I wasn't a believer and was afraid of buying the tire and finding out it doesn't fit.

I had read a bunch of posts saying that it either wouldn't fit, or you'd have to air down the tire, but I had no real issues with my BFG KO2s 285/70/17 on 8" rims. The only thing I had to do was pull the tire towards the back just a bit as I winched it up, but big deal.

I actually ended up being disappointed, as with some of the posts I had read, I prepared my wife by saying that if it didn't fit I'd have to get a CBI rear bumper to carry the spare. Well, she was concerned, and watched me winch it up into the stock location. Really wish I had come up with a different excuse, as now I gotta put in some OT hours to pay for it.

Anyway, most likely, it should fit just fine. If it doesn't, you can try airing down the tire, that might help it in the case it doesn't fit at full pressure.

I made the same mistake. I told my wife the tire didn't fit and ordered the SSS Rear Bumper. We went on vacation and I had no choice but to put the spare on. She pretty much told me to cancel the order or put the same amount into the savings and buy her a purse. My bumper ended up costing twice as much. [emoji34]

It does hang down further than a stock spare but not enough to make a difference. Your trailer hitch receiver will still be the lowest point.

I've got a 285 KM2 under mine and it has taken some scrapes, but nothing significant.
