Doing a re-gear... Front and rear at different times?

Just like the title says, I'm doing the gear swap on my rig finally. Gears are en route from ECGS as I type this. I plan on doing the rear first because this is quickest / easiest. My concern is I will have to stop after the rear and do the front the following weekend just due to my schedule. If this was an older model truck I would have no concern and just pull the front drive shaft and not use 4x4 until the front and rear re-gear was complete. The new trucks have lots of tricky sensors all over... Will having the different gears throw a code? The wheel speed will obviously not change and it would probably not be a good idea to drive around in 4x4, but is there anything else to worry about?

Just keep it out of 4x4 and you should be fine

You can still pull the drive shaft to be safe. There are no sensor on the front 4wd system that are active in 2WD.

For the record for others that read this... it is NOT possible to do this on an LE.

And it's been awhile since I've been directly involved at the shop level, but as long as the front driveshaft has no power being delivered to it, whether from the transfer case (engaged 4wd) or from the front axle (perpetual motion) you'll be fine.

Why not on the LE? Yeah it's full-time 4WD but if you drop the front driveshaft it's just 2WD. Does it screw with the traction control or something? Dashboard Christmas tree? What?

It should not be a problem.. even with the drive shaft connected as long as you stay out of 4wd.

I thought about doing the exact same thing, but ended up doing them at the same time.

Would guess it would work on an LE if you pulled the front shaft... but would be awkward with the pinion spinning...

Since most of the stability control/traction control systems use the wheel speed sensors, I don't think it will be an issue at all. I don't think the vehicle really cares how fast the driveshaft is spinning, just how fast the wheels are spinning.

The LE has a Full-Time 4WD system with a Torsen T3 locking center differential like the 4th gens do. The difference in gearsets in front and rear if you re-geared only one half would mess with the way the mechanical Torsen functions and could cause premature wear issues and unintended issues.

^This. Do the rear. Drop the front driveshaft. Drive around for a week. Do the front and reconnect everything.

@Ducamonsta said you couldn't on an LE and for the life of me I can't figure out why.
