Doing my first axle swap wish me luck

Wheel first. Fix stuff when it breaks, and fix it again if it breaks again. You don't need a 4 inch lift or solid axles or any of that crap, you've got more truck than you know what to do with right now. Most people do.

One of the best wheelers I know drives an '83 truck with no lift and 33 inch tires, and he takes that thing places guys with $15,000 buggies on 40's can't go cuz they don't know what they're doing. Don't be those guys. Learn to wheel first, then upgrade when you need it.

So on my stock axles on 94 v6 do I have a 7.5" ring in front and 8" in rear and also what spline count do they come factory with ?

Am I the only one that keeps thinking this guy is just a troll?? First with all the "how do I google" stuff then, this? LOL...

What is a troll? And I thought this what forums are for to help each other out this is my First Toyota I had jeeps previously and wanted Toyota after I sold my jeep so the questions maybe dumb to you but I'm asking them because I have goggled befor hand and it brings up ring and pinions but for 7.5" and 8" and for the spline count I have no clue what a toyotas is so I can order a locker I don't see why you have to be so rude I'm just trying to do a nice build on my Toyota

Listen to KidV.

Stop searching on how to upgrade your 4runner. Drive the piss out of it and have fun with it. Once you get to the point that your stock 4runner doesn't cut it for you, then upgrade what you need in order to go further. Go wheeling with friends or a club and they can help point you in the right direction.

From the sounds of it, you need some experience before you ask questions. Right now you're throwing darts in the dark at car parts and you have no clue what you need or why you need it.

Agreed w/ SV. You dont need high dollar **** to do wheeling... The guys that drop the big bucks into their rigs have the experience and are going on to the next level. The questions that you have asked over the past month or so are very childish. The stuff we post on here are things that aren't common, ie, FOG's ride not running after going balls deep in mud. Or Nate and Bob's trials and tribulations with their swaps.

Also, build what you need for your terrain, ie, I'm in Texas, its pretty flat w/ no snow. I don't need a 10 inch lift and 40s to do wheeling here. A 3inch lift and 33s was fine. If you're worried about breaking **** YOU ARE IN THE WRONG HOBBY, figuring out how to get home when something snaps is half the fun.

Either way I know I need to regear I just need to know what ring size for front and rear and what spline count

Dumb it down a little. Look in to buying a completely assembled 3rd member. Sure it is a bit more, but it can make things plug and play as opposed to trying to figure out how to build gears which takes a lot of experience to do right.

Assembled 3rd Members [TG (Assembled 3rd Members)] - $594.41 : Addicted Offroad is a full service Parts, Sales, and Fabrication company offering offroad parts for all makes and models, Addicted Offroad

AOR is one of many companies who sell them, but I have had good dealings with them. You can order a complete thrid with a locker and just drop it in.

This can save you a ton of work and hassle.

FYI, a year ago, I knew nothing about any of this stuff and asked lots of stupid questions. Just go back and look at threads I started when I first joined.

Understand they are not trying to be rude as much as save us all some typing.

I love how CM put it. Wheel it till it brakes (or you get stuck) then you know what needs to be upgraded. I am the king of this!

So is it 7.5 ring in front and 8 in rear?

You are correct, Jon--7.5" for the IFS front, and 8" for the rear. I believe the spline count is 27--that's what they list in Trail-Gear for their replacement birfields (those are the front axles, by the way). Footofgod has an excellent suggestion for upgrading your stock set-up, with fully assembled third members. That gives you the ring-n-pinion AND the locker in one package, with all clearances professionally set--all you do is pull the axle shafts out and pop in the new unit. Be sure to match your gearing front and rear before using 4WD.

Ok so I'm having a local shop instal the gears they will like just being able to drop it in and the front I just need a 7.5 ring and pinion with matching gears

So you went from looking to buy some hardcore crawling axles to having a shop do your gears in less than one day... and on a sunday?

I agree on the troll call.

Ya this guy is clueless and obviously has huge plans and will never get anywhere.

Two weeks ago he apparently bought 4 inch rough country lift. Then 2 days after is looking for bj spacers then doing SAS. i call bull****.

Lets see some pics since you haven't even posted any pics of your 4runner.

8" 3rds are all 30 spline. And when companies talk about 27 vs 30 spline birfield, they are talking about the splines inside the bifrield it self, not where it goes into to the 3rd.

And with 35s and a 14b, your going to hang your dear diff on EVERYTHING, even curbs at the mall.

I never said I had the gears installed today and I was planning on installing the axles but they are gonna be way over kill for me. I was asking about the ball joint spacers because I wanted info on them because I was told I had a 2" one on mine. I was gonna order the 4" lift but I needed to figure out where I was starting also in the process trying to find tires! I still don't understand why being ****s when forums are for Help
