Door ding cost

Just noticed my first door ding. Normally I would let it slide but this one is on my door and I'm still in that "new car" phase. I normally park away from other cars but the mall was packed over the weekend. As I parked I told my wife I hope no one dings me. Sure enough, I come back and there it is.

How much does it cost to have a ding fixed? Its only about the size of a dime to a quarter but quite obvious. No paint was chipped thankfully.

Just to vent....I've NEVER opened my door into someone. This happened a lot on my old car. Do people just not give a damn when they open their doors?:wtf: Pretty frustrating!

Depending on where you live, should be around $100. Paintless dent repair can get out some pretty mean dings/dents.

Yeah, a good PDR guy can remove that easily by the sounds of it. I'd personally try to wait until you have 2-3 you want removed because it'll likely be the same charge since it takes almost no time to remove.

Just be glad the paint isn't chipped. I've had door dings where there was paint damage ('05 BMW 525i). I can't imagine how hard you'd have to hit the door to cause paint damage. F'n haters.

Yep, people don't give a damn anymore, it's sad. I was at breakfast one morning sitting by a window, watched an older couple (50's) park their older BMW, wife opens her door a bit then uses her FOOT to KICK it open right into the side of a newer pick up! I was shocked! She did not care, nor did her husband who saw it also. I waited for the p/u driver to walk out, I got up, told him what I saw, damage to his door, and happily pointed out the offenders I could hear them sort of argue with him until he pointed at me through the window, i just smiled and waved, they then gave him all of their info The amount of people who care in this world is getting smaller by the day. Personally I have never dinged someone, and if I have to park somewhere tight I will go over to my wifes side, open, & HOLD, the door so she does not swing it out too far when getting out. I am with you on your rant, makes me sick!

I think the quality is very good and they are specifically made for the 5th generation 4R. I like the width and tapered ends and the way they fit neatly between the bulges on the doors, and I also, as you, believe they belong. I ordered them from Bright Trim - Highly Polished Automotive Accessories. I provided them the Toyota color code and they were shipped to me painted. The cost was about $167, including shipping. They were packed in a cloth sleeve and shipped in a strong cardboard tube. The paint, with clear coat, looked really good and it matched the 4R's paint perfectly. They also included a product to clean the door surface and a promoter for getting a good bond between the 3M tape on the back of the molding and the door surface, as well as instructions. I could have attached these on my own, but was concerned about getting them on properly, mainly straight. I contacted my Toyota dealer's body shop and they put them on for about $55. I am really happy with them.

Yup same thing happened to me the first week I had my TE. I was so pissed cause I parked faraway and there was no one around. We came out and two people parked next to me. I was like WTF and then I walked around and saw my door:wow: So I made my wife wait with me until they came out of the store (about a hour) I got all her info and showed her what happened. So now I am having my buddy who owns an auto body shop write me up a good quote.. I am still pissed about the whole thing :ybrick:

instead of starting a new thread (or using the search funtion! sorry!), can anyone tell me what the cost is of repairing "pinstriping" on my clear coat?

my nail doesnt hang on the scratches, but there are quite a few of them that are a few feet in length apeice... nothing too terrible, car looks great otherwise, so id prob wait a while (to accumulate more nicks/dings) before i do anything.

I tried that site but they don't list the 2010 4Runner as an option. Did you have to have them custom made? I don't find any site that says they make side molding for this vehicle. Also wondered how chrome would look to match the strip at the bottom and on the roof of the SR5. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info. I have a limited the same color. Emailed the company and had them in the mail within a few days. Put them on today and I'm quite pleased. Like you said, not for everyone, but they look stock and will hopefully provide a little protection from the nimrods out there.

Had to dig up this thread, only a couple weeks from being a year old she got her 1st ding, and a good one at that! Local lunch place, beater parked next to me, the one time I did not look when I got back in, noticed it when I got back to work. I would have turned around if I thought they would have been there. left a nice pinch/ding in the door. WTF is wrong with people, just because they drive a beater that is all dinged up does that mean we all have to???

would have saved the side 100%. Was too 'unhappy' to look close, will try to remove THEIR white paint from the side MY 4R tonight to see how bad it really is.

This is actually called thread hijacking, and is considered poor forum etiquette.

I would also just recomend doing a search.


As far as door dings and people not caring, people really just dont care anymore.

One week after having my new TE I stopped at supermarket, parked all the way in the back of the lot. There were PLENTY of other spaces closer to the door, but sure enough some idiot chose to park right next to me. Fortunately it didnt ding my door, but he came out shortly after I showed up and a ripped him a new a**hole for parking so close.
