Door Open "Ding" Removal

THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA AND IS NOT RECOMMENDED, but if you really want to do it, here you go.

1) Remove screws front and rear from door sills.



2) Pry off the door sills with a screw driver.


3) Move driver seat forward


4) Pry off Pillar plastic with your hands.



5) Detach the small red wire and your done.

OR Turn key to "on" position wait 5 seconds.

I'd rather remove the buzzer IMO. The dome light won't turn on without the door sensors. Doing this would also render door-triggered alarms unusable.

I wouldn't recommend it, but if it doesn't bother you, enjoy...

WARNING! I did this in my Toyota Celica when I had it and when I start my car and then close the door and stood out side of it to talk to a friend, the car automatically locked all the doors after about 2 or 3 minutes of it just running. It wouldn't do this if the car 'Knew' the door was open. Not sure if 4runners will do that, but I'll tell you it sucks to be standing in a parking lot with your car running, locked, while you wait for some one to drive you a spare key.

1) Find buzzer.

2) Insert screwdriver in buzzer repeatedly.

3) Laugh maniacally.

I just repaired the switch the op unplugged for the dome light and 'hey dummy, you left the lights on' features. Super easy.

I'd kill the buzzer if not for that lights on thing, betting they are one and the same.

Hmmm, wiring though.....could that be messed with to keep the one alarm and not the other? Curiosity is happening, guess I'll be digging in to find out...

By disconnecting the door switch, you make the auto headlight off feature not
work.

Plus the door open light won't work.


If you want to stop the noise. remove the buzzer.

It is located in the instrument gauge panel.

I've got to get to a trail work day so for now I did this to my 96 SR5:



and buttoned it back up. Four bolts for the panel under the steering column, 1 blue connector unplugging below the ignition switch. No more door buzzer. Still have the headlight on warning. Unfortunately no auto-unlock when you leave the keys in so I am going to dig further when I have a chance.

On the 96 the buzzer is by the fuse block, though I didn't want to disable that. I am not adverse to cutting wires though, but need to find a wiring schematic to see if that's an option that will allow for only the door buzzer to be disabled.
