Double Din HU question

I'm installing a Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD and sub in my truck this summer, and i'm ordering the parts. I'm just wondering for those of you who have put a double din hu in, do you need a dash kit to make it fit properly in the dash or can you use the stock mounts in the dash?

not sure your expertise, but I'd make your own. I have found the kits to be horrible fitting

Go to crutchfield.com and search for double dins that fit your vehicle and see if they sell the unit you want. It should say if any sort of kit is required for installation. Mu kenwood double din fit perfectly using the factory mounting brackets. But the wiring harness they included for free sure made the wiring easy.

I couldn't find one on there for a double-din hu. i guess i will just try it on the stock mounts and if it doesn't work i'll pop into best buy and see if they will just sell me the part that I need to fit it correctly.

you shouldnt need one. i got a Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD about a month ago and used the factory mounts. All I needed was the wiring harness, so I'd assume yours is the same way.

I did mine I believe its a 7.5" doubledin w/ automated screen and all that jazz. You dont need a kit, but from experience, i have the sr5 limited black trim and what I did was order the OEM wood grain off ebay. I used the black one as my trial and error. I also used a dremmel, my buddy did his and said he used an exacto knife and he has the same screen and 4runner year. His worked first try, and came out super clean and tight fitting...Mine on the other hand...well lets justt say i get really excited using the dremmel lol but I knew that with it being so hard to find the woodgrain I just needed to take me time and that is what I did. Made one cut sized it up...made another...and another....and did it until it was perfect to my best ability...bolted straight into factor brackets and wasnt hard just time consuming....good luck man!

Just another thought...I am pushing 2 12" audiobauns as well...a diehard platinum and the cs144 install was the best thing ive done for my electrical system...2 15"s are waiting for me at home when I get back from Bolivia

Oh, another hint someone here shared with me. Dont hook up the dimmer lead to the new hu unless you know it is compatible with how toyota is wired for it. Else it could burn your rheostat out. I didnt hook mine up just in case and have not missed it.

It should bolt right into the brackets. You will need the harnass kit though.

i would suggest getting a unit with a motorized face where you can adjust the viewing angle. the radio spot in our 4runners is way too low.

I have the same headunit. No "mounting kit" needed. Factory hole is standard double din size.

Same here,on my 02 and previous 00 Tundra the double-DIN units didn't require a dash kit,just transfer the factory radio's mounting brackets.
