That's what I have in my rear doors. Before you go buying any speakers please google RMS. Those speakers kick some serious ass for the price point but without at least 40RMS each there gonna sound like muddled shit. It's all about balance in a car audio system. Too much power you blow the speakers, too little power the speakers won't perform well.

You can easily have a great sounding system but you gotta put in the research and usually cough up the cash. lol

The pioneer avh4100NEX is 50 watts x 4. Those speakers will sound fine with that deck. I ran my last alpine type r speakers off a way older pioneer double din and it sounded fine. Those alpine speakers are going to sound way better than those paper ones that are in there now. Unless you plan on buying a 4 channel amps and running focals like I am going to do, you really don't need to worry about it that much. To each his own though.

If I plan to use those Polk 6.5s I found, and order another pair, the addition of an amp makes sense.

Looking for a small form factor amp, I found the Alpine MRV-F300. Anyone know if this might fit under the front passenger seat of a Limited?

I bought the 6 1/2" kickers for the fronts and the 5 1/4" kickers for the rear at Walmart. Am happy with them. I bought adapter plates for the rear off eBay to mount the larger rear speakers but never used them. I modified the factory rear 4.5" mounts to accept the 5 1/4" speakers. I think those adapters will accept 6.5" speakers......may try that later.

Thanks 19963.4lsr5. From what I've read, it does seem that 6 1/2" speakers can be made to work in the rear.

I found a pretty compact amp that I hope can fit under the dash, possibly behind the glove box.

Since I already have a pair of those Polk DB651s, which seem like a wise choice, and I'd need just a couple more, I'd like to go that route. So, I'm compiling a list of compact amps for this application.

I'm getting some indications that the JL Audio HX280/4 might be discontinued, but even if so, still available, as firemanj92 revealed.

Now that I look further, it seems that the JL Audio HX280/4 is not for sale. If so, it's $200+. The price range for the other two (Clarion and Alpine) is $100 to $115.

Power output, slight edge to the Clarion (50w vs 45w RMS)

THD for each is the same at 1%

SNR for the Alpine is 82 dB, better than 70 dB for the Clarion

Any other considerations?

The amp I purchased for my subs is a jl audio 500/1. If you know anything about amps this series is the one to have. Jl audio is one of the companies that give you true power, lots "say" they have the power but in fact do not. I am lucky that one of my best friends went to car audio school and has been in the business for 10 years.

You bring up really valid point about power ratings. That's why there's a CEA-206 standard now for amps. JL has, and mot likely, always will give more power then there rated at.

More power in car audio is always better then less. That's why amplifier headroom is important. If you running the amp at full load it will overheat and generally just sound crappy. Give it some headroom and you can dial your gains in perfectly while having the amp running happily at less then 75% capacity. A cool amp will last years longer than an overworked amp. So in the long run the extra 50-100 bucks you spend now saves you blown amps later.

That's the beauty about living in the NW..... It's always cool here. haha. I have never had an amp overheat, even in the summer with the top off of my 1st gen.

The HX amp is discontinued but widely available. I've always had luck finding them on sale closer to $100-150. JL Audio had them on sale earlier this year. I have 4 of these "motocycle/mini" amps in service. I've got 2 in the T4R, and 2 in FJ and both hu's are different Kenwoods. The 280/4 pushing Arc audio components and 300/1 JL 10" sub in T4R and all JL stuff in FJ-8" sub. I don't push any of the set-ups but just like clean sound. I think the JL "stuff" sounds crisper though-much more effecient.

I'm a fan of stealth installs and hate the idea of using precious interior space when I can hide them or exposing them to possible moisture under a seat and getting kicked. Using 8ga wire. The mini amps are super efficient consuming and outputting energy -solid state electronics was a game changer. When I was looking I narrowed the field to Arc Audio, Alpine, & of course JL Audio. I really wanted to try the Arc Audio but I stayed with "the tried and true" JL.

The factory OEM amp is held in place by 2 8mm nuts (maybe 10mm- don't remember) but super easy to remove. A;lso while you are in the doors, do some sound deadening as it will reduce outside noises by db's which in turn will help with a better audio experience.

Just be smart about the volume. When I put the T1819 in the 97 Puppy Hauler with the Kicker speakers from Walmart I can now hear the wife a block away stopping at the stop sign to turn onto main street. And it's not the exhaust I hear..........she is def anyway. 15 years in a factory and too stubborn to ware ear plugs.

I plugged it into the back of the deck and flush mounted (with little sanding) in one of the 12v sockets in the center console. You could also run it to the armrest compartment if you really want to get custom with it. I have an android so I have USB 2 for my phone and USB 1 for my ipod touch. Ipod is ran into my glove box. I have the HDMI hooked up so my girlfriend can watch movies from the passenger side. The tilt option is awesome and the removable face is great for security. You will not be disappointed. Side note, don't have vehicle in park while ejecting DVD/CD, the face touches the shifter a little bit
