Drivers Side “A” Pillar Grip Handle Installed on 2014 -2025 T4R

My 3rd and 4th gen runner had the Oem a pillar bar. Was surprised the 5th gen didn’t have it. The a pillar bar helps to get into a lifted runner. You can also use the steering wheel but sometimes when it moves, you might loose your balance. Wifey is 5’3” and she needs this to get into a lifted runner.

this entire mod was a result of my wife being 5'-1" and being use to having a handle on all her prior SUV's....

Been following a long time, with a fair bit of reading.. figured joining here was the next logical move. Very much looking to do this mod on my '19!! It seems as if every vehicle except for one of my coupes had a handle on the A pillar...
Thank you to Jason for going the distance and creating the fix. Is your email correct on the first page of this thread? Ive got the handle and the bolt covers.

If the brackets are still available, I would love to order one!!

I've 2013 and it doesn't have that access cover for bolt. Is there a kit for 2010-2013 4 Runners? Has anyone done it?

What I didn't find is instructions. It looks like you need to add another bracket.

So what does that bracket screw into?

Do you need tape a hole in to the A-Pillar?

I received instructions with the bracket. Not too hard of an install, just take your time and triple check your holes. Bracket screws into frame and 1 hole needs to be tapped. It is out of the way of the airbag w/ no issues (don’t ask how I know). I use it a lot with the higher ride height and being short.

Contacted Jason, got a quick response and purchased the bracket he designed. Purchased the handle and covers on line from a Toyota dealer. All the part numbers were correct for a grey handle and covers. Installed the bracket and grab handle on my 2019 TRD 4Runner 6/27/2020. I added a couple extra washers to make it really tight other than that Jason's solution worked perfectly, looks great and is extremely secure. Helps and old guy to get in and out of the vehicle.
For some reason my jpg would not upload but it looks very good.

I'm afraid to drill that hole in the A pillar as there seems to be something behind it. will that plastic thing behind the A pillar come into play when drilling the hole (the hole closest to the dash)? Does anyone know what that is behind there?

Behind the A pillar metal there is an air gap, then some sort of plastic piece in there. I did not drill into it. Instead I drilled an appropriate sized pilot hole in the A pillar, “tapped” the hole using the supplied sheet metal screw. Which was too long, it would have to go deep into the plastic piece when fully seated. So I backed out the screw, cut off the bladed portion to shorten it so it would not hit the plastic, and re-installed it with loctite. Look back at my earlier post for how I did it.

Yep, that makes sense, now that I'm looking at it. Well....I don't have a way to cut the bolt off....What do you think about only using one bolt for the bracket into the A pillar? Safe?

Nope. You’ll rip it right out at first use.
Use a dremel tool with a cutting disc, or drill with a cutting disc, or a hack saw. You’ll need to hold that screw in a vise. And touch up the cut end with a file. Or go to the hardware store and get a smaller length self tapping screw like that.
