Driving in 4wd?

I am going upnorth in a snow storm today and was wondering if there is any dis advantage to keeping my truck in 4wd while on the freeway (I am aware of gas consumption)? its suppose to be slick and sleeting all day and I am towing a large snowmobile trailer with tons of drag. Does running the truck in 4wd for extended periods of time hurt the drive train at freeway speeds?

No, it does not hurt anything. Just use 4Hi with the center diff lock not engaged. You could drive all year and through summer in 4Hi and it will not hurt anything. However, if conditions worsen to the point where the traction control is working a lot and causing you problems, then engage the center diff lock. Try to use 4Hi and CDL only when the roads are very slippery.
