DRL Disable but keep Auto Headlights

Seems like it is a little different on the 2017 Limited as I have the following switch positions:

- Headlights On
- Tail/Marker Lights On
- Auto (DRL/Low Beam)
- DRL Off - All lights off

Let me re-phrase my last post. I use the "Tail/Marker Lights" position along with "Headlights On" position. I just flip back and forth between the two accordingly. The "tail/marker" position is how I have the raptor lights and side markers lights on at the same time. I never use the auto. My stalk looks exactly the same as yours!

Got it... I was doing the same, flipping between the two. I was hoping that mod would automatically go from tail/marker lights to headlights. I wanted the tail/marker lights to be the DRLs.

Just did this on my Limited. In AUTO, it does not turn on the marker lights, which I was hoping it would since I recently did the marker LEDs on the grill.

However, while in AUTO, the low beams and markers do come on when the conditions dictate it. At least I no longer have those annoying LED high beams during the day.

Wish I'd asked the Toyota techs when they installed about how to stop the hi beam DRLs from coming on too, seeing how the kit is considered an upgrade/replacement. For now I've just been keeping the stalk off, factory installed DRL button on all the time, turning on low beams when needed.

I really need to do this, just hate to bend that pin. I guess it really doesn't matter though.. I'd only move to a better headlight setup, not back to stock. And my DRLs are now the fog LEDs.

Ran across this thread when searching because I want to disable DRLs and run LED High beams. Such great info guys!!!

Many people are worried about damaging that $200 relay so has anyone just pulled that fuse box up and simply pull the wire (pin) out under the relay? Just an idea. I may try it.

I think getting into the box to pull the pin will be difficult as they are designed to keep us out. :shrug:
I know people have gotten into them before, but with LOTS of difficulty and breaking tabs, May cost more than the relay. :lol:

As far as bending the pin, I was never worried about it, it will never get bent back and even if I wanted to bend it back, I don't think it will be an issue.

So people....... there are more important things to worry about.

Save yourself some cash and look on Ebay for one. I paid $20 plus shipping for it. It just took a slight modification to fit into the slot. I bent the pin on the one I bought and put my factory one away in case I ever decide to put it back in. I cannot confirm if the Auto light feature still work; I don't have Auto lights on mine. Everything else works as it should, just no DRLs.

Truth! I did this quick mod on my previous 4Runner. Before selling it for my new Runner, I bent the pin back without any issue. As long as you're not wiggling it back and forth, I can't imagine it breaking or causing any issues.

I have the DRL and I notice they do turn off with the parking brake on. Is there a way to disable it through the parking brake rather than the relay pin bend?
I know that the DVD player in aftermarket stereos needed to have the parking brake source connected so that the DVD would only play with the parking brake on; would it be the same kind of idea with the DRLs?

Thanks to all the info early in this thread I managed to get a switch into the DRL wiring. Now I can enable/disable the DRL mode at will no matter what the stalk setting. Not for the feint of heart!

Seemed like a good mod which would allow to revert back to stock if you wanted to in the future.

$#!Q@$%!% If I'd only had this info when trying to do my DRL toggle mod. Would have saved me at least 2 hours of trying to remove the Body ECU! Oh well, it's done now. Anyone who wants to install a switch can probably cut the wire there instead of trying to get at it on the backside of the Body ECU.

just so I'm clear, the only way to have only parking lights and fogs on at the same time is to do this mod and the Antman fog light mod. Is that correct?

DRL Disabled on Non "Auto" Headlights System on my SR5 Premium.
So disabling them is the same as Auto Headlight systems, by bending pin #2 out of the way without any adverse issues!
I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to bend the pin down and firmly to the side as pictured.

DRL's don't come on.
Parking lights function as normal.
Low Beams and fogs function as normal.
High Beams function as normal.
Tail lights, stop lights and turn signals function as normal.

I have a 2011 Sr5 in canada, it doesn't have the off switch and also doesn't have that relay in the fuse box. any chance you can point me in the right direction to disable the DRL? thank you

Excellent mod.

Found this thread today and decided eh what the hell I'll do it on my 19.

Yesterday I installed led switchbacks and high beams, and was annoyed on how damn bright the highs are while running as DRLs. Well, problem solved!

Excellent, simple mod.

Now to do Antman's mod so i can get fogs running without low beams.
