MStudt, do you still have these? I'm thinking about doing this mod on my vehicle.

Wondering out loud if there's an even cleaner way to do it without cutting any wires. Perhaps one of the unused pins on the D 8 connector to the daytime running light relay acts as an inhibit. Anybody know how the DRL Off position on the headlight stalk works on the vehicles it actually came on?

Where in the heck was I back in September??? This is such a cool mod! I love when we can do a mod using OEM parts!!

MStudt...do you have more than one of the light stalks?? If yes...is it OEM or an eBay unit?? If not...no big, I'll just go buy a new one and then sale my old new one!!

The DRL stalk on the original vehicle works the same as it does on ours. The only way you can make this any cleaner would be tracing the DRL wire to the plug on both ends. If you do this you can open the plug and remove the entire wire from the factory plugs. Once you remove the Black/Yellow striped wire you can add a new wire. You need to source the factory style crimp on ends that will allow you to reconnect them in the factory harness. Once you find those you can make 2 separate wire sections. One coming from the factory wiring to the new stalk, and another from the new stalk to the factory wiring again. At this point you have stock looking wires that have not been spliced together. I know you can find the pins, but I can't remember where I saw them.

I don't have the extra on anymore. You can get them off eBay for around $20-80. They come from a Toyota Solar, and from a 99-03. I'm not sure if the newer ones will work or not.

Thank you Sir. First, I think I'm going to check out the price for an OEM stalk, before I go the eBay route. Hopefully they're reasonable! The one I have now was only like $30-40 from Toyota.

Thanks again...way cool mod!! :hail:

2 things.
1. This is great for people like me...OCD by nature.
2. It makes me wish I had DRL, so I could disable them :)

OK. If I were to get a stalk with the fog light switch (I don't have fog lights) and wired in aftermarket ones, which pins would be used for the fog lights?

There's another thread out there about someone changing stalks for that reason. They added factory lights when there were not equipped with them. They changed out the stalks, and add a coupe wires. It's a good write up about it. If you can get the factory pins than its plug and play.

Can you use this for fog AND DRL mod? If I don't have fog lights but add either OEM or LED to the space this stick will control it all?

I don't see why not since the stalk already controls both. You'll just have to add the appropriate wires.

so (since I've never attempted these type of mods) swap connectors, add wire to the missing pins on the receiving end of the 4runner steering connector and wire lights to the main module under the dash?

So let me get this right, you still cut the Pin 12 black/yellow wire, then those two ends get wired into the two terminals that you add to the 4runner harness?

1) where do you get these terminals? this type ? or this?
2) what you're essentially doing is extending the loop of wire to the harness, making those pins act as your gate to close the circuit to turn them on?

I just got a solara stock via ebay. It arrived today and it looks like the same exact one I already had from a 2000 limited 4runner. I remember that one not fitting into the steering column bracket. What the heck?

Anyone else have this problem?

Mendozer, yep have this problem also. Spoke with Mike plug n play for him.
99-01 Solara had p/n, 02-03 p/n, 04 up p/n. all with DRL off and Fog switch.
There aren't any Solara's in my area so back to drawing board on this mod.
Dremel might come out, cut n tape wire, don't know yet.
You can get female sockets at dealer, look like pigtails in pics mike posted.
