DRL Disable MOD 2.0

Yeah I haven't done this yet eithet. I also can't find a clear answer whether I can just cut the wire and be done with it. Will the headlights still work? I don't care for DRL at all

Can please somebody help me? Where and what does the DRL module look like? 99 California SR5. I cannot see any of the photostock photos...

I've been away from this thread for awhile now.

I just looked back through my eBay history, and I ordered a 99 stalk. This also came with the vehicle pigtail, and I used it. You can open the plug to remove the pins, and this will allow you to NOT cut your wires. You just need to remember which location each color wire goes into.

Thanks Mike, that helps a great deal. The one I fleabayed must be a 02-03 version based on research I've done. Fleabay listed it as 99-03, anyone need a stalk that won't work for this mod?

Subscribed,

This statement says it all. The "pigtail" meaning socket that stalk mates to needs to be used as well, which is why we are having fitment issues. I'm assuming the stalk with socket will mount to the steering column as the origanal one did, swap electrical plug ends thus making it Plug n Play as Mike has stated. I have not been able to get my hands on both pieces when/if I do will know the rest of the story.

I went through the same dilemma as you did. Seems that the years 2000 and newer had the smaller design stalk vs the larger ones you found off other toyotas. The fix you ask? Either buy or find at your local salvage yard (like I did) and pull the ENTIRE column that holds both the headlight/wiper stalk! That worked for me and loving every minute of this mod. I pulled mine from a 2003 Solara with the drl off and fog light.

I really like the idea of an OEM Toyota stalk instead of an aftermarket switch. My problem is finding a Solara headlight switch with the “DLR Off” feature. Looking at Camelback Toyota’s parts listings and then pulling up those numbers on Google images, I find that NONE of the 99 – 01 switches (8414006050) or the 02/03 switches (8414006010) has the “DLR OFF” position. The first time Toyota shows this on a currently stocked switch is 2004 (8414006210). Judging from the responses in posts #48 and #49, this is NOT gonna be plug-and-play. Anybody found any current OEM bolt-in solutions?

I've been following this for a while and forget the specifics, but isn't there a way to just cut one of the wires for the DRL while using our stalks causing them to not work, but the stalk would operate fine in "headlights on" position? Something about a yellow and black wire. I read that somewhere like a year ago but just haven't gotten around to it.

Everyone's always trying to disable DRL and I'm over here having to turn the headlights on in my '98 every time I drive. :(

With headlight switch in the "on" position, don't your headlights come on and off with the key?

They did on my '88 Celica, and '89 Camry.

If your headlights switch is turned on then yes. They'll turn off when the key is turned off. This has nothing to do with turning off the DRL's though.

My response was to I'mStock who indicated his '98 doesn't have DRL. My point being that if he just keeps his headlight switch in the "on" position, he effectively has DRL.

Negative, they'd stay on until the battery died. :(
Does your dome light come on when the driver's door is opened?

The logic circuit in every modern Toyota I've encountered works like this:

When starting the vehicle:
turn the ign switch to "on" > lights turn on.

When coming to a stop:
turn ign key to "off" > lights stay on until driver's door is opened.

I got a question.

There are two types of Salara stalks. One which is like in your picture - it says DRL and DRL OFF. Then there is the other model that says on it AUTO and DRL OFF.

Can you let me know if any of these stalk's fog light switches are operated independently from the headlight switch as on the original 4Runner stalk?

I ask because there are Toyotas out there that when you turn the headlights OFF, they retract the the stalk's fog switch to OFF also if the fogs are ON.

Thanks guys

The one I have is independent. I've tried figuring out what year this came from, but I can't find anything on it.
