DRLs on a 1999 4Runner?

There was a Canadian posting a while back. He had bought a US '99 and needed DRL's to register in Canada. Places up there were offering an aftermarket conversion for a price I forget, but maybe $150. He wondered if it could be done cheaper converting to the Toyota US system.
The short answer was no. I figured out there are three relays alone that were unique to the DRL-system and their cost alone summed to over $400. The DRL 4Runners are switched grounds and the DRL models have switched hots. So a whole lot has to be changed. Easier to go aftermarket. Ask a Canuck. I doubt a dealer can even do it. Maybe with a salvage truck and a lot of time you could do it.

I did this to mine and it works well. You can use just about any LED light set with no worries about current draw on the factory wires.

Yup, any US vehicle coming up here needs DRL to pass inspection.
Last time we were getting a car through, and of course every thing was last minute, my buddy installed them in about 7 min. He's a car electronics wiz and apparently Honda Odessy is very easy to do, mind you this was connectors stuck in with fuses and the relay was tucked under the fuse box. LOL does the car have DRL.... Yes... Good enough.
Simple way.
Wire a relay in to your IGN wire and use it to give a signal to the head light relay, or switch. Since you are using a relay you can make the sending signal positive or negative.
