Dropzone's 1994 4Runner Expedition/Overland Build

I will probably be swapping to rear leaf springs in the near future. the FJ80 springs I had didn't raise the rear as much as I had hoped.

I would give it some time to let the front settle before messing with the back or you may find yourself doing it more than once.

Looking great. I love 2nd gens SAS'd. :drummer:

Thanks!!

no turning back now

got all 4 plates cut and most of the holes drilled. * Got one side welded up and of course ran out of wire.
raised it up about 3" to clear the receiver. * Need to trim the bottom plates a little to clear the rim*

well, I ended up messing with it.
Added a 1.25" spacer to the rear

got the raised mount on the spare tire carrier back together.

and i did a clearance check, looks like it will still fit after i rework my roof rack

I'm loving the looks of your rig, looks great! I think if I ever get another Toyota (which I will, lol) I might have to go with a second Gen 4runner.

You're going to have to update your 4runner pic in your signature now!

Thanks Ed!
I took your advice and fix my sig pic

Didn't have as much time as I wanted to work on Project Recycle today but I got the old 5.29 third pulled from the Trekker rear axle. It was good to see it was still in great shape. Not too bad since when I installed the Aussie 7 or 8 years ago I had no clue what I was doing other than taking a look at some of Zuk's write ups on gearinstalls.com

The third when in with out a hitch with the exception of me being thwarted by the 94 flange needing 10mm holes. I could have sworn I had a triple drilled flange but nope. So ordered some 10mm bits off Amazon so I'll just drill the flange on my next day off.

And since I am a grumpy old man I continued the grumpy sticker tradition on my project cars. I am pretty sure I had one going back to my baja bug days in high school

Gotta be good for a few horsepower

ran into a snag on getting my rear driveshaft in, could have sworn my 5.29 third had a triple drilled flange.
Nope so ordered a 10mm drill bit and rotated the driveshaft a few degrees and drilled the flange myself.
Rear shocks finally arrived too so got everything buttoned up last night. Drove it, 1st impressions is that I really want to convert to rear leaf springs sooner than later. The tall rear coils are allow for some leaning in the corners.
Going to pull a couple of front leafs up front to see how much that lowers it and pull the coil spacers to even it out.
Drove it about 30 miles between yesterday and today, took a little while getting use too but it should be very capable.

*With the 35's and 5.29's the speedo seems dead on. *Decent power. *I will confirm with my GPS how accurate the speedo is.

4runner's CEL came on a few days ago. Go to pull the codes, since it is pre-OBD2 so you have to jumper the diagnostic port. Found the EGR temp sensor unplugged(right next to port, plugged it back in, pulled code sure enough code 71(EGR fubar). Pull EFI fuse to reset, CEL out..i love free fixes, new sensor runs about $150.

Thanks!

after having a spring time flu I finally felt up to getting vertical and had some time so tackled replacing the master cylinder and brake booster
when you are short like me this thing from Harbor Freight comes in handy

the hitch mounted vice has been proving it's worth a lot lately. *Bench bleeding the master cylinder went off with out any issues

When i pulled the old master cylinder there was quite a bit of corrosion inside the brake diaphragm *it so I went ahead and replaced it too.*

instead of doing the usual zip tying the LSPV rod up out of the way I went with a small bracket idea that 1UZrunner had mentioned works like a charm

with pretty much all new brake parts with the exception of the backing plates and hard lines the 4runner stops on a dime now.

I'm surprised you didn't just delete your Load device.
I did and have not looked back.

Man you must be short lol

Did you upgrade to the 1" master cylinder!

i thought about it but didn't have any fittings, this was a free 5-10 minute fix.
the MC actually has a 1" bore stock

and yep, I am one short individual

swapped out the Trail-Gear shackles that were pretty close to hitting the front body mount with the truck sitting still

shackle angle was pretty crappy due to using this X-O Fab frame brace with integrated steering box mount, with it you are limited to how far forward you can push the front spring hanger as the steering box mounts in the stock location. *

it will be interesting to see how the Sky's Delrin spacers treat the spring bushings, with the steel spacers provided by trail-gear the bushings don't have a steller service life.

Sky's Off Road Boomerang shackles installed

You don't need any fittings to delete the LSPV. Connect the main rear line directly to the hose going to the axle, then disconnect the line feeding the front T fitting (passenger front wheel well) and connect it directly to the passenger front hose. You can then remove the LSPV and the line going to it and add a manual proportioning valve to the rear brake line wherever you wish.

Good to know. I know when I ordered a manual proporting valve for the trekker there were some metric adapters required or at least some sort of adapters sent with the kit from Front Range Off Road. I am gonna leave it for now, brakes are working the best they have since I got this POS

For the manual valve, yes you would need fittings. I ordered the valve from FROR and it came with the adapter fittings.

got pulled over saturday for my tires sticking out beyond the fenders and no mudflaps. Told the deputy I would get it fixed in the next few days, he said no problem.

Pulled the old mudflaps from the 81 off the shelf and looked at what I had to work with on the 4Runner. A couple of pre threaded holes...hmmm

looked at the luggage rack and a plan started to come together

two threaded lugs and removable mudflaps

tomorrow i'll see what i can do about flares
