Yes, a little bit. 2 weeks pay might get everything I need. Maybe 3. My mother-in-law is being kind and letting me drive her '76 Ford with a 360 CID. That's gonna hurt the wallet some. But I can expense the gas.

As far as the engine block goes, here is the info:

'99 SR5 4WD auto 3.4 litre.

Mileage? Ideally under 100,000 but this is the real world.

i feel your pain, kinda i just know my heart would like stop and i would just be upset till i fixed it, maybe its a sign tho, you know your runner is amazing and all, maybe a step forward is might be a good idea? sell this pice or work and get a 4th? i know its hard to let go, but its life, and lifes a *****, so spend your money on it hahaha

Failure is not an option. I am still financing this truck. Also we've been all over the country together . We've offroaded the California sand dunes and mountain ranges, been in and out of the Rockies, explored Wyoming, and crashed the Sturgis biker rallies together! She's never let me down, so I'm returning the favor.

Besides, I did a tally of what I have invested in this truck. Right now ( before the engine repair) I've got around $13500 invested in it. My work is almost complete. I only lack a few more items and my "master piece" is complete. I'm sure some of you will understand, while some of you will think it foolish. But to each his own, my friends.

As much as it kills me, I'm probably gonna have to pay someone to put it in. I cannot stand letting someone else do my heavy mechanic work! But time will not allow me to do it.

That sucks! I know how you feel but it's ok. Be thankful you're busy enough, have a job and the funding to deal with the hiccup.

I am intrigued by JohnD90's suggestion of a "chip chucker" Cummins. How would that get hooked up to the trans? Would the trans handle it?

Shoot, I'm taking my kid wheeling when she gets old enough but I would hate to have been in your shoes, stuck, with a submarine 4Runner and have that 'Dad Moment' when you realize that you're stuck...in the snow and mud...with a busted truck. Clyde, TX is right off I20...straight shot from Douglasville, GA also right off I20. That makes it easy! Just the 931 miles part is a little intimidating, but hey I can pick up a couple of guys in Birmingham on the way and we'll knock this out!:boxer:

I think the 5 speed may be in order, but if he did the conversion, it would extend the life of the vehicle to as long as he wants, even if the 4BT dies there's so many spares sitting in junkyards its not even funny.

Just a little update. My truck LIVES! I got it started today. As I suspected, I had ice in the cylinder. Today it blew all the water out. I changed the plugs once I got it running. I cranked on it off and on for 30 mins. Got it running, changed out the gas fouled plugs, and drove away.
My speedo is dead, right front power window and switches, ABS light on, Check engine light, and I have a high idle. No biggie. I'll start the repairs next weekend. I'll keep you posted. I'm gonna name my truck Jesus Christ I think. It died and arose from the dead 3 days later. Take that Top Gear!

Dude, you hit it right on the head. I also had my woman up front, who just happens to have a phobia of drowning in a sinking car. It freaked both of them out pretty bad. But she told me when I went out swimming and he calmed down, he had a few questions. " Mommy, I really wanted this truck. Is Shawn gonna have to get rid of it now?" Of course she reassured him that I had no intention of getting rid of it, and that it would come back stronger.

Sounds fantastic, except for all the water in the exhaust system. I'll keep you posted. I do have these little creatures swimming around in my headlight. Kinda cool looking.

I don't know. I was cranking it over. Runs fine. No heating issues. Just milky oil, I'll change it when I get back. I think it'll live.:bravo: Besides, head gaskets are an easy fix.

Glad to hear its doing good! were you bummed a little you didnt have an excuse to put a TRD supercharged engine in there?!?!

yeah, the pricetag on all the fixes drops a ton when you remove "engine block" from the list! :thumb3:

The wine was a JC reference....no matter. A snorkel would look AWESOME on your rig...and you could use all the money you had already saved up for a new engine!

It never was the same, the rockers and valves were all messed up. It did have 165K miles on it as well. It ran fine, just sounded like a diesel...haha. Eventually started having oil leak and kill my 5th cylinder, but it still ran and started without trouble.

haha i just sold my 95 for my 4runner major upgrade! you couldnt even lift the explorer it was the only year you couldnt lift,
yes it was a terrible car but that 4x4 got me into 4wheeling..thank you bell

glad you got it running. be careful. i went offroading with a jeep and he hyrdo. we got it running after an hour of getting water out. he drove it for about 500 miles after changing all fluids and everything he could. a bout 2 weeks later it threw a rod and it had no rod knock once we got it running. granted it was a jeep but it was the 4.0 which itself is a very reliable motor. so just be careful.
