EXACT same thing happened to my buddy's Frontier:dammit:
 
Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it. I've got about 17 years automotive experience. So I am prepared for anything it throws at me. Was told today I would be working 60 hr weeks until further notice. Gonna be hell on my body after a 2 month vacation. But at $40 an hour overtime rate, I'm not gonna complain. If it blows, I'll fix it in no time. BTW, a snorkel is and has always been in the plans. It's just I was hearing about all the money I was spending on my truck instead of our house. When this happened, I told her that if I had invested the $350 in the snorkel, I wouldn't be needing to buy an engine. Also I am going to go ahead and buy a rear winch. One of those would have saved the day and prevented this mishap. Sometimes you get into a situation you can't back out of. Then you have to drive on despite the risk. This is what happened to us.

Remember the snorkel wont do as much as you think, it will certianly help, you still have to waterproof the wiring and all that fun stuff, on a diesel engine the snorkel is much more useful.
 
Now that all this is behind you, and the 4runner and your fam are safe and sound,

Is it ok to bring up the fact that the kid (not sure on the relationship yet) is foreshadowing all of this by wearing GOGGLES?!?!?! LOL

First thing I would do is ban any underwater apparatus from my vehicle LOL

a diesel engine has just as much wiring to worry about as his gas engine

Actually the snorkel would have done a lot. For instance he wouldn't have sucked muddy water into his intake killing his engine for several days and this thread would have been about the best way to clean carpet.

Yes, he did foreshadow it. We were on a 100 mile trip out of town. We (I) got sidetracked at our local lake. He had a PDK, as he calls it. Personal Disaster Kit. He came prepared to slide off the road on ice. He had 4 pairs of socks, a stick and bandages for making a leg splint, and all kinds of other sh*t. He is a very neat little boy. BTW, he is my stepson.

But yes, in the future, no underwater gear!

You are absolutely right. A water tight seal is absolutely necessary. If I had enough water to invade our "sealed" plug boots, then I would have had water coming through the dash vents. Even with a snorkel, I would never attempt to go through water that high where it would be a concern. I wouldn't have been in this situation had I not fallen into a big @ss hole. A snorkel would have saved the day (and a rear winch).
 
BTW guys, I am interested in a supercharged engine still. I think I still want to change this engine out. I would love to put a 4.7 v-8 in there one day. Not sure if anyone has done that mod yet. It would be alot of work I bet. Probably have to mod the transmission hump to accomodate the bigger transmission.

These are insurance sales. Some new, some with damage. Nice selection of Runners and everything else you could ever want. You need a rebuilder's license for some of them. But there is alot that you don't.
