DVD Player Placement

Just picked up a slot loading dvd player for my 2005 limited and I'm looking for ideas of where to mount it. Dimensions are roughly 7" x 6.9" x 1.96".

I'm thinking of mounting it either in the smaller glovebox inside the glovebox, or mouting it vertically in the center console. Has anyone else done something similiar?

The small glovebox inside the glove box is a good location. Still reachable for you to load and also has the ability to be hidden just by closing the door. Size seems pretty close for a DVD player also.

Yeah, I think that'll be the best place too :)
 
Actually, the inner glove box may not work. The blower for the A/C sits right behind it. With cables attached there may not be enough room... :(

I may just have to put it in the center console. The added bonus for this location is that I will be able to connect my video ipod easily to the dvd player as an aux audio/video input.

decision, decisions! :)
 
What about taking out the flip out bin in the dash, fitting it in there and then customizing the bottom half of the dash?

Yeah, I'm looking into that possibility as well. The player would have to sit vertically as I believe the ac ducts are straight behind the bin. The only problem I forsee is the weight of the player itself. Currently the bin weighs almost nothing. I'm not sure if the clasping mechanism that holds the bin closed will be able to support the weight of the player behind it. The last thing I want to do is hit a speed bump and have the dvd come flying out. :biggrin2:
 
I'm not talking about using the bin I'm talking about removing the bin and installing the dvd player horizontally into the dash. That way you can still load it and it will level and may even look uniform to the dash if done right.

The ac vents for the back seats run under the center console and appears to head upwards right behind the bin. If this is the case, mounting horizontally wont work. I really just need to pull the whole dash apart and see whats behind it. I'll pull it out tonight and post some pics. If nothing else, it might help as a reference for others.
 
Took apart the dash, here's my findings:

The ac ducts for the back seats do indeed run behind the bin. The ABS compter sits on top of the ducts taking up more space. There's simply no room to mount anything horizontally.

Behind the "inner" glove box is the ac vent. There's a little bit of room to mount something here. I was hoping to mount the dvd player completely inside the inner glove box. Once again, not enough room.

Looks like I'm down to two options:

mount the dvd further outside of in the inner glove box,

Wow your right there is really no room to mount that. I would think wither place looks good but how well will the DVD function mounted in the console upright? I myself like the glovebox mount

I'm definitely going with the console mount it this point. I have a video ipod and the dvd plaver has an A/V line in right in front. I'll be able connect it easier than if it were in the glove box. If I didn't have the ipod, I'd go with the glove box for sure. I'm definitly glad I got a slot loading model, which will work perfect vertically. Plus, the unit came with a remote sensor for the remote control. I'll run that under the console and hide the sensor in one of the vents next to the nav. This way, me or anyone else in the car can use the remote by just pointing towards the dash.

Time to mount the damn thing! :D
