Early 5th gen trails vs new 14-15 trails?

whats the major differences between early trail editions 10-12 MYs vs the new ones. I'm looking for a trail edition but i don't see many used ones for sale. The ones i do find cost as much if not MORE than what i can buy a brand new 2015 for. whats the justification to ask 34k for a 10 or 11 with 70k miles?

I will say my 2015 just feels more solid than my 2011 did but you can't go wrong with either

Thats why I have a '15...

The mechanical systems should be identical. The only difference is the interior and exterior. IMO the interior of the 15 was significantly nicer than than of the earlier models - in particular the navigation/backup camera is standard. And most of all no red interior gauges! Let BMW keep its red interior. It seems as though there is added sound dampening, but I didn't drive an early trail with stock tires, so it's hard to tell between the two on that issue.

I do tend to like the exterior of the earlier models a bit better.

For me there was just no reason to buy a 4yr old used 40-60k mile 4runner when I could buy new with warranty and unmolested for less than $5k more. On the bright side - the high cost used one still sell and the resale should be excellent sometime down the road.

that's what i thought. I couldn't really find any advantage to the earlier models. It blows my mind that people are asking 30-35k with high miles for these when it is the price of a brand new one

Just goes to show you that the resale value on these don't diminish much. I traded in my 2011 SR5 w/leather 3rd wow and 75k miles and easily got $27k.... this was earlier this year

X2 - My thoughts exactly. I own a '15 Trail Premium and I love the updated fit and finish on the inside, but I tend to favor the appearance of the older Trail's better. Big reason for a new one was having the softex upholstery and the updated electronics.

The Entune, phone interface, weather app and navigation are all much better after the mid model refresh. The Softex (vinyl, plastic, whatever) seats are really nice too. They added the under hood insulation on the TE and SR5 models after the refresh also. As far as phone, I used to have a mount so I could use the phone for control and basically used the vehicle as a speaker phone. Now I can leave the phone in my pocket because the vehicle finally caught up to the functionality of the phone.

I will agree 100% with this statement. I was so underwhelmed by the 2012 LIMITED I test drove that I walked away in disgust, ashamed of what Toyota had done to the 4runner (having come out of a 4th gen).

My '15 does feel a lot more quiet, more refined and just nicer. I really do love it and love how nicely equipped it comes in base SR5 form.

Out of curiousity, what overwhelmed you about the '15 SR5 over the '12 Limited?

As far as the original post goes... 34k for a 10 or 11 trail with 70k is ridiculous.

6 more months to the 2016 and only 12 past that for the 6th gen? Isn't that right? If so, if it were me, I think I would hobble along a while longer, then either buy the most solid 5thgen and at least have the opportunity to check out a 6th gen before you buy.

The information display on between the 14s and 15s are different. 15s only display the time - 14s display time, temp, and fuel info(mpg or range).

i'm in the market for one as well and people/dealership are asking for almost the same price as new!! and they are standing firm

does anyone know what 2016 changes will bring? should I wait...and hope they clear our the 2015 to make room for 2016?

You just have to look around. I bought my one owner 10, last January with 40,000 miles on it for $27k.

Early models don't have that damn emissions thingy where many of us put our 2nd battery.

Personally, I prefer the more "rugged" look of the '10-'13 TE's which is gained I think from the black plastic trim versus the newer painted trim. That said I like the interior of the '14-'15 better. Like others have stated you can't go wrong with either.

Gotta disagree with this. Red gauges are much easier on the eyes. To me, blue gauges are always very distracting no matter how low I turn them. It's my only gripe with the 14+ interior.

Is the hood liner a universal fit for all 5th gen T4rs? Has anyone who added it measured or even noticed an engine noise difference?
