Easy Weekend Mods

Well I made it to page 25 for the first read through...I am going out to pull my HCF right now to get some cred on this forum. .1 mpg and some intake noise is all I need for justification! Other than that, the rubber mat fender liner is awesome, Key off 12V, maybe VSC delete but this rig is more of a toaster than a toy (needs to do one thing only and needs to do it very well; deliver my equipment for work)

Where is the rubber mat fender liner?

I did the HCF Delete with my 4.7 V8 about a month ago and I have seen no significant value in doing this mod. I understand from reading most of this thread about the benefits that it is "suppose" to be doing but I have not seen them shall I say digitally, my estimated MPG reader has actually gone down since the removal but I have not calculated it out on paper so it may differ. Outside of a possible increase in MPG there has been no real noticeable change. Not saying I will put the piece back but also not seeing the huge push to take it out either, at least not yet.

I'm all for improving performance but concluded after reading many threads that the HCF delete is most likely of little value. Seems counterintuitive given the importance of airflow but I'm not wasting my time until the benefits are more substantially documented.

Center console cover for the limited

I'm looking to swap out the center console upper cover on my sport edition for a Limited one because this will give me two extra slots to be able to drop in OEM switches. Does anyone know if these are swappable? Also, i'm pretty sure I found the part number for the Limited part, 5882235020B0, can anyone who has done this swap or who had a Limited confirm that this is it? See pics. Sport upper cover.jpg

Any help you guys can provide will be appreciated.

Also, sorry if i'm on the wrong thread, i didn't want to start a new thread simply to ask this question.

Super easy mod

Remove the running boards!! I know it seems like a silly thing to do but it's very simple (did it myself in about 20 minutes) and can make your rig look 10x better. There are just a few nuts that can be easily taken out on the underside and it comes right off. And bam you don't get mud all over your leg every time you get out.

Some of us "vertically challenged" people would rather deal with the mud.
:iagree:

Does the K&N filter even make that big of a difference? Just wondering

the only REAL way to gain power is in the motor and fuel systems.
The K&N helps on the pocket book over time.
I've had mine since 2007. I'm not smoking the tires at the drag races but I'm not spending BS money every time I need to replace the dirty paper filter.
Just get the drop in filter and let it rip.

Just my 2 cents.

Never had a stock filter so not sure. Some don't like that you treat it with oil. I've never had an issue with mine though. I like that if I get it wet offroading it doesn't damage it. Clean, re-oil and all is good.

AFE pro dry filter for the win. Minimal maintenance, no oily mess to deal with. Coming from a former k&n enthusiast.

Ok, anyone know if I can wire my led offroad lights, yes with an amber lens, into my turn signal wires directly? Or do I need some sort of relay? I was thinking if I used a wiring harness like you use inside your truck to turn them on, but instead of going to a switch it goes to the turn signal hot wire that should work if you can't wire it directly in. Thanks for any info everyone!
Also, doing the DRL delete mod too... Hate those things.... I'm going to post this in a couple locations.

I have CV boots on both front axles need replaced, so I figured to just change both front axles and seals. Never attempted something like this so not sure if it's a repair I should take on or just pay someone to do it for me, and if so any ideas on a good shop in the North Kansas City area.

V8 Exhaust Options

I'm new to this site but I have had my 06 V8 SR5 for almost 4 years now and I love it. Recently I have been considering an exhaust swap/upgrade and I'm looking for some advice on which kit I should be looking at. I'm in PA so I'm thinking stainless would be a good idea. I was also thinking a CAT back kit would be my best option. So far I have looked around on-line and found a nice looking (but expensive) Magnaflow kit and a more reasonable Gibson kit. Has anyone one here had any experience with these kits? Are there any others out there that you can recommend? I've seen some YouTube videos of V8s with a Borla system which sounds great but I can't find the kit on the Borla site. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I had the Gibson kit. Sounded great, really nice mellow growl that got louder at high rpm but nothing you'd get pulled over for.

I have had both the inner boots go bad on mine and its not worth just replacing the boot. Just got on Autozone or Rockauto and order a new or reman axle. Its not a huge job to change it out. The first one took me and a buddy about 3 hrs to do but when we did the other side about a year later we knew what to do so it was much quicker. They can be a little tricky to get it out of the from diff and to get the new one lined up and it but its definitely do able at home if you have the tools and an extra pair of hands would help too.

Thanks for the advice! How does it sound on the highway? I'd like something that has a good growl around town but isn't excessively loud but I'm most concerned about resonance at highway cruising speeds. I'd like it to have a good growl low down and virtually unnoticeable at highway speeds.
