EatonKyleH's Build Thread

Do you live near Boulder?

I work in Fort Collins and live in the small town of Eaton just east of Fort Collins. I however am in the Boulder area fairly often and would be more than willing to travel down there if you guys want to meet up sometime. PM me if you are planning anything there of if you are heading up north!

Great looking build!

Thank you kindly! I've spent a great deal of time drooling over yours lol. A post on the 285 vs 265 thread calling you "265 or die" Hepar always comes to mind when I see your posts. It also had a bit of weight in my tire choice although I'll probably go with the 285s someday if I wind up supercharging this thing.

Great starting point and nice work so far!

My wife and I rock the Big Agnes air pads in the back of the 4runner too. Most comfortable setup I've had (except the FJ60, which had a little more elbow room).

Seeing how well that case sits back there, I might consider one of those for a tool box.

lol :)

Nice! and thank you! I'm a Big Agnes fan I'll admit and I was really pleased with how the pads just fit perfectly back there.

and you read my mind about the tool box... I'm buying another one to use for that purpose back there as well. It comes with 3 layers of pull out foam so I'll layer wrenches on top of sockets/rachets and be able to organize it well without the tools rattling or sliding around. Pretty stoked to see how it comes out.

Where in CO are you guys at?

The armor phase is officially underway...

Just ordered:

Budbuilt Front Skid
Budbuilt Belly Skid
Budbuilt Diff Skid.

My Shrockworks sliders are about 2 weeks out now as well!

after I get all this on I'll be topping off with Lil' Skips gas tank skid and a set of Lotus RCAMS.

My wife asked me if I was trying to get the 4runner on the next Death Race movie:flamethrwoer2:

And to appease the wife I picked up a new stereo.

A Pioneer Appradio3.

I plan to run Dashcommand on it to monitor OBD2 pids. I like the idea of displaying data on the radio instead of adding another device. I spend a great deal of time staring at fuel trims and other boring info at work so I just couldn't wait to do that on my spare time!:smashputer: My wife thinks inclinometers are cool and wanted an FJ cruiser..... I swear entirely because it has one on the dash so this will also make her happy for for a lot less!

Anyway I should have a lot to share very soon. I've also added a grab handle over the drivers door so I could build a tent style "gear loft" to hook onto the front and rear handles when I'm sleeping in the back. This will be a good place to but my glasses, book, and other things much like many tents have as an option. I'm also putting together another Pelican case as a tool box which I'm excited about... again it feels like I'm bringing work home but just the good parts about it! Also got a TRD oil fill cap:hiding: the seal on my original one is leaking a bit and I figured some silly bling was in order.

Psh Death Race would be too easy for our trucks :gun6:

I want to see a Lil' Skips skid in person someday so maybe I'll take a look at yours haha. I got the Any7 Gas Tank skid and I'd love to see the differences between the two.

Dear 4runner,
Today was thrilling and one of the most expensive days I can remember as a young man. I am picking up a 2nd gen TRD supercharger kit in the morning and committed to ordering you a shrockworks front bumper as well as their rear bumper with swing out in this years group buy. I am glad my wife likes you otherwise this would have been much harder to achieve. I look forward to the adventures we will enjoy together very soon.
Your sugar daddy,
Kyle

Nice! Did you buy new from the same place I did?

Thanks! I was planning on purchasing it there also but supercharging was in my "in the years to come" plans anyway until very recently.....

Story Time:

Earlier this week I caught wind that a local shop got in a Tacoma that had been totaled from a rear end collision (still running great) and they were using it as a donor vehicle, pulling its engine to put in a customers truck. Well as luck would have it the donor vehicle was supercharged and their customers Tacoma was not so they simply "had no use for it". I asked what generation it was on the phone and he didn't know and just sent me a picture of it.... :redbrick:

I expressed some interest when I saw a lovely picture of the black second gen TRD supercharger with all the bolts, brackets, dynamic tensioner, belt (hell for some reason even the whole throttle body) etc spread out.

Trying not to be too excited I asked what they wanted for it all and he said quote "well I don't really know what a used one is worth but I guess they are like almost $3000 new.....so maybe $750... is that fair?" I responded "$700 cash today and I'll pick it up!?" DEAL!!!!!:guitar3:

couldn't pass it up.... awesome start to the weekend lol and ya he gave me the extra throttle body even though I told him I didn't need it lol.

Should have lots of pictures and updates soon!

Little update for the 4Runner journal.

Put my new head unit in this week and I love it! Sorry its such a mess I just got back from a weekend of exploring trails and camping in the rain. Still wanted to post it up.

Pioneer Appradio3:

The screen has an adjustable tilt and can be put flat in the dash or tilted up toward you like this.

The sound is a huge improvement over stock and allows me to run my navigation apps, pandora, Iheartradio, netflix, Ipod, etc etc on its screen. I also am running the app "dashcommand" with a wireless OBDII device which allows me read/clear codes and display a vast amount of data. I really like that the screens are customizable and I can view more than 4 items at a time and all without another device like a scangauge. It also has a inclinometer and a bunch of other junk.

shots of some random screens (not from mine)

Then I figured I'd put a little picture up of this weeks project:
.......my $700 supercharger! (see story 2 posts above...some bits a pieces not pictured but included)

Nice score on the supercharger! I just picked up a second gen myself for $450, but no parts with it. Any clue how many miles are on it?

Thanks and very nice I saw your post on another thread that's simply awesome. I really don't know how many miles are on it just that it turns smoothly and I can feel it suck/push air. I figured for the money if I ever need to rebuild it I'll still be ahead. I should have it on by this weekend and I will update with my impressions. I did wind up purchasing another SC install parts kit through work for some fresh bits if you need anything let me know as I have a couple spare odds and ends.

Hmm, I do need some more parts. What do you have left? I need the 8x1.25x170mm bolt and IAC valve, tensioner and throttle body gasket.

Are you going to be running colder spark plugs? I'm curious to hear your impressions of it without the 7th and such.

I'll be running the Denso IK22 plugs.. I live at 5000 ft and most everywhere I go is higher so I'm hoping to keep it basic for a bit.

I'll get back to you tomorrow after I verify this but I am pretty sure I have an extra OEM tensioner and 170mm bolt. I do have the throttle body gasket but it's a bit rough and I opted to get another. You are welcome to have them for free if it turns out I have anything that you could make use of. I'll get in touch with my findings.

Such a steal on that supercharger. I hope you keep your truck locked up at night. It'd be a shame if somebody took it off your truck :spy:
