Electrical Question

A family member recently picked up a 2012 Trail and plans to do some wheeling with me in my XTerra. I want to get the T4R set up with a CB but I'm not as familiar with the Toyota's electrical system as I am my Nissan.

What I plan to do is install a Cobra C 75 WX ST so that the mic and antenna can be detached when not in use. This is primarily a daily driver and the owner wants to keep the interior nice and clean.

In my XTerra I was able to lift up the center console assembly and install the CB power box underneath it with wire dongles coming out from under the panel at the floor by either seat. Is something like this possible with the T4R? Where is the best place to tap into power that turns off when the key is removed? (On my X some power plugs stay "hot" all the time.)

Thanks for the help.

I believe all the 12v outlets are turned off when the key is removed, I might be wrong though. You should be able to pull the center console trim off easily, but I don't know how much room you might have to work with.

Full installation instructions with pictures of my Cobra ST75 can be found here;

I used a Diamond K400 mount on the rear hatch and allowed the hand unit to be easily disconnected from the center dash. Also includes an electrical diagram on how to run your wires. Mine is accessory switched so I wouldn't leave it on a drain the battery needlessly.

If you are routing it to the roof rack and like an automatic fold down, check out the K900 mount.

Hopefully that helps.
