Emergency - transmission doesn't work at all

Hi guys, I have a 2002 4runner I bought about a year ago. This morning we drove around in snow and I used the 4wd. This afternoon my wife drove it to the store, when she came back and parked it, she noticed suddenly the 4wd indicator lights started blinking. She switched the front drive control from "H" to "N." Now all the gears (Park, Reverse, Drive, 2, L) stop working, and the indicator keeps on blinking, can't be turned off. Does anyone have any idea? Please help!

I tried to switch away from N, but for some reason it didn't comply. In fact, I can only switch between either L4 and N or H and N, I can't tell.
I'll try to disconnect the battery.

Yes, I tried again and it didn't work--no matter how I shift the front drive control, it seemed it wouldn't shift away from the damn N. I'm about to try to disconnect the battery.

ok, for starters, disconnecting the battery isnt going to do anything for a manual actuated lever. crawl under the truck and make sure the selector lever is in fact connected to the transfer case. if it is, it sounds like you may have a transfer case problem.

I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. It worked! Well, at least for now. I hope tomorrow morning it's still working...

Thanks guys! I'll come back if there's any problem. Thanks again.
