Engine Air Filter

Hi all,
I need to replace my engine air filter. I've searched the forum and found threads about AFE, K&N, TRD, and other high-end oil soaked filters. I couldn't find anything about standard filters.

So the question is - is Toyota OEM filter better than the cheaper Fram or other "standard" filter? It's easier for me to get to an auto parts store than to drive to a Toyota dealer.

Thanks,
Glenn

I would say OEM is better than your standard auto part store stuff, that's if you aren't springing for the high-end filters.

If you don't want oil soaked you can go with the AFE Pro Dry S

Air Filters Direct Fit aFe Power Magnum FLOW OER PRO 5R Air Filters; Toyota 4Runner/FJ Cruiser 10-12 V6-4.0L 30-10208 - aFe Power

Click the drop down to select the 'dry' version.

I say stay away from the K&N if you don't want a lot of oily dirt covering everything inside the intake manifold and throttle body. I installed one on my Yamaha motorcycle in place of the paper filter last time and now I have to take all 4 carbs apart and clean them because they are so gummed up with oily dirt that it only runs on 2 cylinders!

Heres my new one, old one is on the left, not as bad as I thought it would be.
