I was simply driving down the freeway the other day in the rain and all of the sudden my engine just shut off. I have an 88 V6 and when I coasted to the side if the road I tried to start the engine but it wouldn't go. It turns over and all the electronics work so what should I look for first?
Engine died on the freeway and wont start.

did you look under the hood? you should check the timing belt. it may of skipped a tooth or something.

would be even be able to tell if it did? and check your oil for antifreeze

umm not necessarily lol. i just think its the most probable if it still cranks but dosent start.

No bang? No sputtering, no vibrations? Gauges were all good (oil, fuel, temp, etc)? Without any clues, all you can do is go down the list. Air, fuel, spark, compression, timing, etc.
If you've got juice at the key, you should be able to pull any codes it may be throwing.

So now what I have come down to is that there is no spark going to te spark plugs. There is a spark coming from the coil but I need to test If the coil is giving enough juice. Dose anyone know how one goes about in testing a coil? How many Ohm should be coming off it? Any other suggestions I should look at if I'm not getting spark from te wires?

Did you get it fixed? Most likely its the timing belt. If that is broke then you will not be getting spark to the wires since the cams are not rotating driving the distributer to get the spark to the wires. Check the timing belt.

i love how everybody jumps to the worst possible thing wrong. could be timing belt, but it would sound waaaaay different when you turn it over, mostly faster. have you checked the cap and rotor? is there any play in the distributor? like the shaft is loose.? i had a similar problem on mine right before the coil ignitor went out, i was getting a weak spark from the coil, but nothing to the plugs. not cheap! but easy as changing a battery, if it turns out to be the ignitor, do not pay the $650 for the toyota brand! autozone has a duralast with a lifetime warranty! for half the price. you chek the efi fuse? or any fuses? could be as simple as that. good luck!

Nah not really jumping on the worst possible thing. He did not state mileage on motor or when the last belt was changed. Mine broke on me going down the road and geuss what the same symptoms. Take the cap off and turn over the motor and see if the rotor is turning. If its not truning then what do you think it would be, Timing belt. If it is moving the rotor while you are cranking the engine the belt could have slipped. Try and put it at TDC and see if the rotor lines up w/ the distributer. If all that is good then something else is wrong.
