I had the AFE filter and Borla on my 03 Sport V8, really sounded good. Also had the Borla on my 08 FJ TT as part of the TT package, that droned at highway speed making it hard to carry a conversation in the back of the FJ. When it came time for the scheduled 30k maintenance at the dealer the dimwit tech threw the AFE filter in the trash and put in a paper OEM filter, wasn't happy. Otherwise good experience with Borla and liked the rumble. They said it was good for 10hp, that's debatable.

Outside of boltons are internal engine upgrades such as a cam allowed for STS class or is modification like this only allowed for SM?

I think his intake and exhaust modifications bump him into STR though.

Aquabear, where did you get the MAF calibrator tuned at? I've been wanting to add one for a while, but finding somewhere to tune it that's semi nearby has been holding me back.

Probably got a pre-set cal from URD for the intake....


FYI...
MAF calibrations like this tend to only make a difference under hard acceleration where the ECU flips to open loop.

When ordering from URD, you tell them the specs of what you have and if they have a pretune they'll install it for you or you can download the software and tune it yourself.
They put the tune in for what I have ie: CAT n Cat back.

Explorer Sport? Seriously, I feel sorry for ya lol. Glad you got a 4Runner. Everyone mods their vehicles differently, def got some good gains for price but it's not for everyone, good luck!

Have you driven one? It ran 12's (tune, DPs)and was a solid vehicle and had much better on road manners than the 4Runner. The newer Explorers are solid vehicles at least short term especially if confined to pavement. The Explorer was more comfortable, handled much better, and trumped the 4Runner in pretty much every tangible item with the exception of reliability and capability where the pavement ends. We're very happy with the 4Runner because it's easier to take the dogs camping and explore off the beaten path while offering rock solid reliability but the Explorer was unquestionably the better vehicle on the pavement.

I finally got around to have all 3 upgrades installed. AFE CAI, Borla CAT Back exhaust and URD MAF Cal. What a nice difference. Yes its the Butt Dyno but its happy!!!
Maybe one day I'll actually get it Dynoed but not now. Road trip to Florida tomorrow.

I love the sound, the pickup is great especially with the 4Runner loaded for a long trip! Now we will test the gas mileage! The MAF Cal made a difference as that was the last piece to be added in, one at a time day by day.

Love the look of your ride with the K02's! I'm going to do the same with mine.
