I was wondering about that. What do you recommend?

I just strapped it tight with some bungee's should be good. If it gets loose I'm from the South and will probably duct tape it!!!

DAY 1
Okay today is the day I'm finally leaving here is a short video I put together of the first day. I will be meeting with an uncle tomorrow morning in Nashville. I will write about the first day then.

Day one was pretty good, some how another my maps got messed up and one leg of TN was not showing on GPS East of Chattanooga. I will say that I had my timing way off and was expecting to have mostly paved roads but naw!! Still good fun mostly gravel roads with some rocky patches a few water crossings nothing major.
Stopped by this little general store to get a "thunder dog"

I drove on until about 1230am after not seeing the leg I needed to be on and no camp grounds also needing gas I decided to head out of Trail into town and stayed at a Walmart which was horrible now I'm driving to Nashville. Once I have lunch with my uncle the only other time crunch is Colorado on April 20th

Safe and fun travels, OP. Some sections out west will get a little rough. Don't pass up gas once you get west of the Mississippi R. Take the time to stop and bullshit with people, they advice they give can make the trip easier; and it's nice to interact with different people. If someone (who seems normal) gives you local advice on a route or place to eat, follow it! Plan to spend a lot more time on the road than you figured because off road (or dirt road) miles are waaayyyyy slower than the pavement...and you'll be doing a lot of U-turns on Sam's route.
If you make it to norCal (Humboldt Co) you have a place to crash at my house. We love hosting adventurers and have done our fair share of crashing at other people's houses on adventures of our own.
He's referring to removing the second row seat bottoms, which is necessary to do if you don't have 3rd row seating (because that is a totally different cargo floor design), and you want to have a flat cargo area. The flat cargo area is pretty much a necessity IMO for sleeping in the back. Pop off the plastic covers over the legs of the seat bottoms and remove the 14mm bolt on each side. 4 bolts total. Then lift the seat bottoms out. You can now fold flat the seat backs. You can view the link in my signature in the sub-folder titled "4Runner modifications" for photos of that.

Thanks for the great advice I will do so. I was figuring an avg speed of 30-40mph I think I over estimated!!!

Suggestion: Since you have room put the shovel; ax; etc inside the roof rack. I know it looks cool but - - - -

Well, the main thing is ease of access, remember I still have 4 broke ribs and separated collarbone!!

I know right!!! It took me 4years and a few life changing event but I finally did it and oddly enough I'm really at ease about it. Kinda like skrew it I will make everything work out.Do you KNOW how many people on this board would love to quit their jobs and do what you are doing? Major envy!

DAY 2
Okay so day one was wild and day two was just as good!! I didn't get a chance to finish day one in the previous post. Apparently there was a break in across from the Walmart I was staying at that caused alarms and police at 430am so needless to say I was awake!! I drove the three hrs to Nashville met my uncle.
Now it's 1100 CST still real sleep!!
After leaving Nashville I thought that I had seen something about the Trail going through Memphis so I figured I would skip some of the winding in the Appalachian Mountains (since I can explore them later) and go to Memphis and catch the Trail. Well, I got off 40 and ate at the Log Cabin Restaurant on, I think hwy 13?? Anyways found out that I could take the hwy straight to the Trail from there and it was only about 50 miles to the Trail so I gassed up at the Pilot and decided to look at a tire gauge since I forgot mine, well they wanted 10$ and I was like hell no I'll get one at the next Walmart!! Left Pilot on 13 and steering wheel started to wobble, I checked the tires and didn't see nothing but I went back and picked up the gauge and a tire repair kit!!
After driving 50+ miles from there I finally turned onto the trans-america trail. This was a little road that oddly enough there was a sign at the very beginning that said that my GPS was wrong and I needed to turn around!!!!!
Then I hear the worse sound possible, air leaking. Yeah I cut a tire, I have always been blessed with matches in the darkness but WOW what are the chances right!! So my question is Nitto WTH?? Maybe this is why they didn't want to sponsor me!!!!
Lucky I was right on the out skirts of this little town that had a tire shop!!!
So then I went to the local tie place and they were able to fix me up!!

From there I was off!!! I traveled through what I think to be some of the prettiest scenery I have ever seen or could ever imagine!!
I have wanted to see the West for a LONG time but I really don't think you can compare to the Southeast at Spring time!!

Then out of nowhere BOOM!!! Heaven. I came across what I think to bee the absolute best place anyone could spend their first time campin (after all lests not forget this is my first time) Waterloo Alabama WOW!!
Last night my collarbone and ribs killed me. I EILL NOT BE UNCOMFORTABLE TONIGHT!!!!!
The brown pillow is a temperpedic!!!
Got my camp set up, ate some pork chops I picked up from the little store on 13
Did I mention FULL CELL PHONE SERVICE!!!! I'm in heaven!!
I also had to find a place with beer cause dammit I deserve it!! BTW, Waterloo is a dry County little ways to find a store with beer but there is one!!
For some reason I had 1 too many images.
sorry!! It's just me relaxing with a beer by my fire!!
I also took this time to rearrange the truck and will finish in the am!!
I'm writing this at 1133cst and I'm beat. I've killed the about 6of the beers, threw some firecrackers to keep what ever critters in the woods away, it's 52°, my fires gone and I'm ready for sleep so
