Thanks, I may do that. Looks like I could at least get an SR5 4x4 for just a couple thousand more, which would probably only raise my car payment $40 a month. Mine isn't supposed to arrive for "2-14" days so I wonder if Dick Dyer will keep my $500 if I tell them I want a 4x4 instead.

If you have any doubts at all about getting 4x4, you need to go ahead and get it. If not, you will be doing like me and trading in a couple years to get 4x4 anyways.

Technically no, but if you get some Thule crossbars while you're at REI they should hold. Some guys have their's attached that way.

So what's your route through CO? You might find some dirt roads on lower elevations, but I suspect anything in the mountains right now is going to be buried in several feet. If you have to stay paved over the higher passes, I'd suggest US-50 West of Pueblo to 550 south to Ouray and Durango. Then into UT and the TAT. The scenery especially along 550 will make up for being on pavement. But don't go I-70. Ugh!



Best kept secret on US-50 is Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

My BIL and I did a snowboarding trip back in December and drove from NC through St. Louis to Crested Butte to ride for a day.From there we went through Ouray into Durango and rode Purgatory. 550 was the prettiest stretch of road I have been on. We had to do some at night. Worth it to make it through there during daylight. After that we went down to Pagosa Springs and road Wolf Creek for a week. We then drove straight through on I-40 without stopping to get home. I don't recommend that. Epic trip. Have fun and be safe!

Just as an FYI, [MENTION=130932]wild_turkey[/MENTION] originally had his mounted on Yakima bars and snap arounds (very similar to the Thule bars). They will also have these products at REI. Check his build thread post #8.

Hwy 550 aka The Million Dollar Highway is awesome, with great views and tons of curves. Great in a sports car but probably not as fun in a 4R. Pics below is some of what you will see. If you're hitting RMNP you ought to stay a night at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. It's supposedly haunted, was the inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining, and it is a great hotel in general.

DAY 8

Today was good I spent a large portion of the day trying to get rid of all the mud so that the 4runner would drive without Shaking me to death!!! After that I stopped at the Coloradoland tire store and got some air thanks guys. I left there went to Rocky Mountain Harley which I had said I would stop. From there I went to the REI store in Denver. It was awesome!! I left there had a Bison Burger with jalapeno and cream cheese. At My Brother's Bar which is supposedly the oldest bar in Denver. From there I headed on out towards the Rocky Mountain National Park. I looked for some crossbars. The Toyota store wasn't very helpful so I the went to the four-wheel-drive store where I meet with Nate from the forms who has been following the trip, Pretty cool. I made it to bolder stopped got an air mattress then stopped at Estes park Safeway for what I wanted to eat. Well after looking for places to camp I ran out of daylight and lots of roads are closed for the weather soooo... Oh here are pics from today's travels.

I was meet at the Harley store with living the dream as an answer to how you doin? And honestly I can see why, they are working with bikes with this scenery all year. That is truly a dream

Now I'm having a beer at Cables Pub and Grill and WOW what a great burger and the beers cold. So since I ran out of day and lots of closed Rd mixed with more snow I think I'll just stay around here and see the park tomorrow.

Till tomorrow. By the way can someone please help me out with the cross rail deal. What do I need?? I want to spend less than 200 and have to ability to one day hold a RTT.
