*EPIC TRIP* Taking my Trail on the Trail!!

Yeah, Moab Rim is one I'm considering tackling next time I'm there, but it's definitely not for a stock 4Runner. The guy that steered you to Hells Revenge did you a solid. Very doable in a stock 4Runner, and it looks like you had a blast. Good for you doing it for your first Moab trail. I think I would have been pretty intimidated doing that for my first trail in Moab. How did the descent back to the main road once you get off the slickrock go? It is pretty washed out it spots and can be really rough, with lots of broken rock and ledges.

Man I did. My actual first Trail was in Arches Park some 4x4 Rd that had me somewhat sketched out sick it was the first time I actually had any real solid obsticals!! Hell's revenge was cool, a guy in a lifted lwb wrangler was guiding another guy passed as I was checking the situation, which I did often to ensure minimal damage, he said u might as well turn around if your nervous about this rock. It was at the beginning, I figured this was typical Jeep owner behavior!! U know nothing beats a Jeep!!! Anyways I asked if I had enough clearance he said I should so I went on to try and price I could do it!! One thing about off roading is slow is too fast!!! The only real damage I got was the back bumper and that's cause I was messing with my phone and not paying attention.

DAY 13???(I think)
So today I woke up to a beautiful view in a Camp called lone Mesa in Moab
After I woke up I decided to get on the Trail with no specific place to go just drive on Trail until I find suitable camp. The drive was good around Moab and was very beautiful
Then I started up the mountain to go over it and started to see snow. Now I'm in short sleeve shirt shorts and the sun's beating down its about 65° when I come across a sign that says road impassable in Winter enter at your own risk. Well current condition and time says we should be good. So up the mountain I traveled.
I had traveled half way up when I slightly MIS calculated the depth of the snow I was approaching!! After I realized I was good and stuck (no driving aids helped, nothing I knew how to do would help) I stepped out and sunk to my knees in snow!! Remember I'm wearing shorts shot sleeves and my DC shoes with ankle socks!!
Sorry I didn't get many pics of the 4runner stuck, I was too busy trying to get out. I had no service and was legit stuck for 3hrs no less!!! I used my come along to inch out as best I could. I finally resulted to vigorous and violent reverse, drive, reverse, drive turn wheel so on and repeat. While using the come along too. Finally after I was to the point of just taking a nap with the truck running to melt the snow packed under it I got out!! So I had to back track a total of two hrs so a total of 5hrs had been taken up with this!!!
On the way down I saw this guy with an ear tag and tracking collar. Poor fella
I finally got to the Trail outside Gunnerson Iowa when I found Yuba State Park. I checked it out and it had full cell service and this view
The weather nice I decided to try tent camping tonight for the first time since starting
Cooked some Steak and instant potatoes
Drank me a beer while next to the fire and started writing this.
About the time I got the first sentence done, here comes wind and rain!!! That wasn't suppose to happen until tomorrow. Ol' well I'll listen to my Pandora and drink beer in my tent damn it!!!

DAY 14
OK so today was good, no issues!! I did wake up during the night to find that for whatever reason my zipper on my sleeping bag broke which I'll be honest that was the most comfortable camping all trip. I can't wait till I get some better weather and I can camp more in my tent. I brought two bags one I had bought, just a little 40$ light bag, and one that my girls uncle gave me that was issued to him in the military. It's great but like everything else government owned, flawed!!! Anyways the wind picked up considerably last night and it was raining. When I woke up I had a break in the rain and I decided to cook breakfast. This is where shit went south!!! I stepped in the spatula and broke it and the eggs got smashed by the ice in my cooler that shouldn't need ice!!!! So instead of cooking food I just cooked coffee. Trying to undo a tent in higgt winds is a hassle in itself!!! Finally after getting all packed up I was on my way, here are some of the views from today's drive
As you can see I was driving into a pretty good storm.
More cows!!! I now know where America gets its cows, West of the Mississippi!!!
Came across this, didn't stop figured I would have to pay to dig up a fossilized leaf or something!!! Hell I find those at home all the time!!
I came down this mountain and experienced the most dramatic scenery change I have ever seen. It went from grass and rock to this weird sand
After I picked some of the sand up to feel it I noticed it had a crazy texture and stained my hands and shoes. All I could think is that these are salt flats. My mom's husband later said that is exactly what they were.
Stopped to take some pics of the pony express station

So after driving for 250miles without any gas stations or anything really, I came across West Wendover NV. I got gas and an Arby sandwich, a fav of mine since a kid!! I realized it was windy as hell, and only 40°, the Pilot wanted close to 15$ for a shower and the room at the casino with a bed and a shower was only 20$ more. So guess where I'm at tonight!!!

So right now I'm down the street at the other Casino because they gave me free drink coupons to the bar 2 for the one I'm at and 2 for their sister Casino down the Rd that they won't take at mine!! I drove down here to catch u guys up then I will be back at my room for some good night rest. Till tomorrow!!!

You should go to Bonneville Sand Flats nearby.
Which road did you take to get there?

Yes that's the city! I took various trails one of which was the pony express. Also I will definitely strip and look at the salt flat but I have been advised to stay off due to the fact it's like quicksand right now

Watched your video last night! Very good! Question: Have you done much off roading before this trip? I noticed when you were getting near Moab you used crawl control some and then you tried it without crawl control. How, in your experience, much different was it?

Glad you enjoyed it. I have done a pretty good bit however keep in mind I'm from the Southeast so nothing like this!! I really really enjoyed the off roading and will definitely do lots more. To answer craw control question, the biggest benefit I found was actually going down hill it was alot easier to control to avoid damage. Prior to craw control Toyota called this downhill assist. You could do everything craw control does however it's kind of like a cruise control to where all you really have to do is steer. I could have gone through the whole Trail in crawl control although it would be slow. It reminded me of the first Jurassic Park when they were in the explorers that were just driving.

If you take NV-93 sout h form Wendover you can catch US-50 at Ely (crossing the Pony Express trail again) . US 50 goes through much more interesting country heading west than I-80 does.
US-50 has some interesting scenery as it goes over the top of each mountain range and the quaint little towns of Eureka and Austin. Lots of off-road trails going everywhere all along the way. Give me a call when you get near Fallon or Fernley (775-575-6020) maybe we can spend a day out together.
If you stay near the I-80 track you will mostly see just the Humboldt River valley.

Awesome!! Looks like the Trail goes backwards towards salt lake which I'm not interested in. I'm about to go grab a bite and then figure out where to next.
