Of course, but I remember seeing a ton more even 5 years ago. It's like everyone gave up on them. The Montero Sports were considered junk by most, but I still see tons around as well. I guess despite the oil burning and transmission issues they weren't too bad? Weird.

Those explorers are known as exploders lol. They would spontaneously catch fire without notice. Happened to someone I knew and burned down half their house. It happened at around 2 in the morning when no one had even driven the vehicle for hours

Honestly, it's a draw for me between the 5th gen trail or trd pro's and non fat lip 3rd gens. The 5th took a minute to grow on me but it definitely grew on me!

Yeah, when I first started looking at new 4Runners at the beginning of the year, I thought the front end was just plain ugly. Still thought so even when I bought it, but since then it's grown on me.

I don't see too many 4ths, but do see a bunch of 5ths in the Costco parking lot every time we go shopping. A few 3rds here and there. We're all pavement crawlers around here.
I do see a lot of my previous vehicles around town. I think I unconsciously look for those more than the vehicle I'm currently sitting in.

Just because it's stock doesn't mean it's not trail worthy and not used for more than milk runs. I've done nothing but install a roof rack so I don't have to haul gas cans inside my vehicle, but probably go off road 2-3 times a month and never had an issue.
I get annoyed with the elitist sentiment some people seem to have about modded 4Runners being 'better' than stock. They are just as capable in my mind for the conditions most of us find ourselves in.

While I totally agree that people shouldn't talk down to those with stock rigs, I don't think that's necessarily the point of what that person was saying. Probably meant it more as a joke. If not then oh well but I don't see a since in judging a vehicle based solely on build.
But I kind of hope you're joking when you say that a stock rig is just as capable. I can't tell you one off road park in Texas that a stock rig can do everything. No matter what the rig is I guarantee the stock version couldn't do all trails or even 80% of them. There is a reason people build them up and not keep them completely stock.
Granted most people enjoy dirt service roads and whatever but that simply isn't everyone's style (especially mine). If I can do it in 2 wheel drive I find no fun in it. If I have no fear of not making it then that's just meh. A forester can do that. Most of us like the challenge and to do the really challenging things takes some building often times.

Hence why I said 'conditions most of us find ourselves in'. I have absolutely NO interest in rock climbing or fording 6 feet of water, but I do enjoy camping and taking trails that are not suitable for 2WD vehicles. With the right kind of recovery gear, you don't need a bubba lift or giant obnoxious tires to experience 4 wheel driving.
In any event, to each their own and I'm not trying to pooh pooh on anyone who wants to mod their 4Runner, but I do take issue with anyone who feels every un-modded 4Runner is just a grocery truck or not worthy of the same respect.

I have had a few FJ's and the 4R seems to be a right of passage in CO... I mean, they are everywhere....... I would like to put the sales numbers side by side with the Suby's...

One thing that I didn't realize until I started shopping for a 4runner... there are SO MANY 2 wheel drive runners. To each their own, I just never realized how hard it would be to find a v8 4x4 runner.
