Exhaust leaks near muffler

I know that on the back cat flange because of the metal expanding and contracting the JB Weld high temp will crack off in time. :-( Most likely the metal around that hole is extremely thin and if you try to weld it shut it will most likely make
this hole worse.

So this I how I fix these cat back exhaust issues:

1.) I buy a replacement rear cat exhaust hanger.
I cut the nuts off and use stainless steel bolts and
nuts with washers so they don't rot up and can be
removed again.

2) If the flange on the cat is rough. I use new oem
gaskets with permatex ultra copper maximum temperature
rtv gasket maker to help the flanges reseal with the new
gasket.

3.) Then I use Northern Stainless exhaust because
Toyota OEM exhaust are insane. Walker only last 4 to
5 years in my environment then they rot off.

What? they sell those as stainless steel?

These two rear portion, even in the top quality walker, rot off in about 4 years here also. I'll keep that in my favorite and hope they will still be making them when I'm again having to replace this exhaust.

Yes. I think they are the grade stainless which will slightly oxidize. I look at it this way even if they only last 8 years they are alot better then walker. I have 2 winters on mine and looks alright. I am curious how long they hold up. Along as they last more then 5 they beat walker.

Looks impressive, was installation straight forward as in bolts right up with no modifications?
May order one for my 02 and keep it on hand for when mine finally drops.

It's a direct bolt-on. Hangers did not need any modifications either!

Here are pics of it now after being exposed to some nasty mag chloride brine. As you can see, there are flash rust speckles on it, which kind of surprised me. I am not aware of the grade stainless steel used, but am curious now. (Brillo76 any idea?) I plan to wash it off thoroughly this week along with the underbody. The rust spots do come easy with a damp towel.

I didn't know stainless steel grades could rust but they can. I don't know exactly which grade this is but it will discolor and slightly oxides.

these exhaust will probably outlive the flanges as it happens on many OEM stainless steel exhaust on cars. (flanges aren't stainless) But as brillo said, if I'm getting 8 years instead of 4, I'll be an happy camper. And then weld new flanges and go another 4 years.

If they last 8 years or more. I get stainless flanges made and weld them on to solve that issue.. our original oem exhaust are semi stainless or an alloy. This is why they last as long as they do. It's the cost for replacing that is not cost effective. Hence why folks are forced to go aftermarket.

However, if you have toyota replace your shocks, struts or exhaust. They will lifetime warranty it as long as you own that rig.. So if the price tag is worth it to the owners. That's an option too. I just can't bring myself to pay that cost of a complete exhaust :O

TIG welding if you dont want the welds to rust. If you dont care if the welds rust you can use gas/mig.. As the standard welding wire will weld stainless steel just your welds will oxidize.. i weld flanged stainless nuts replacement on when i have replace a nut that was welded on. I just use mig for those ..
