Exhaust pipes

Hello Forum,

I will soon be purchasing an '08 4 runner. I am looking to modify the exhaust so that it has 2 tail pipes (side exits, not straight back). My purpose for this is strictly looks, not for noise or to gain a few horses. I simply like the look. PLUS, I will drive with my windows down for sometimes & I don't want exhaust smell coming in. I used to own a wagon & the rear window would lower also & it had side exhaust outlets. Every vehicle that I have owned has had dual exhaust outlets, some were true duals.

Can I purchase the tail pipes alone, without the muffler & just add a y-pipe behind the current muffler or should I have a shop customize them? Also, do I have to remove or reposition the spare tire? Finally, if someone has this mod, could you PLEASE provide pics of this setup? Please understand that I don't yet own a 4 runner so I can't peak down there for any ideas.

Thanks!

You could go to any exhaust shop and they can weld in another pipe to the left side or you could just buy the borla catback.

I guess I will have to get the extra pipe welded on the left side to a y-pipe. Borla is too expensive for what I want. I wouldn't mind purchasing a muffler that had dual outlets but not a borla or flowmaster because they make noise. Plus, all I want is the extra pipe (not a dummy pipe). Does anyone know or have pics of how the left pipe is routed? Is there space between the spare tire & differential? I received a private message & heard how the exhaust sounds on a V8 but I am getting a V6 so it won't sound good IMO.
