Exhaust tip follies...

So I went to install the Toyota "Shiny" exhaust tip on the new 4Runner. FOr those of you who have done, this, were you able to insert the steel spacers all the way into the back end of the tip?

I was only able to get about 1/4" of the spacer between the tip and the exhaust pipe.

Any comments?

I think the following attachment may help. Pay close attention to the "Internal Bump". They generally do not give install instructions with parts, unless you specifically ask for them. You will be wishing you had a third hand...it is a little tricky holding all of those parts in place while trying to tighten the band. Good luck with that.

Thank you for the instructions! I managed to find a "text version" of the instructions last night, but yours had a good layout (with pictures also). I installed the tip exactly as shown (the internal bump is a nice move - typical Toyota), but I still can't get the spacers any further into the end of the tip - thay start riding up the flared part of the exhaust pipe.

I agree that a third hand was needed!

I will just leave well enough alone for now. If things do not hold, it's off to the muffler shop for a date with the welder...

I picked up a shiny stainless steel tip for my '04 at Walmart for $13 and it fits perfectly. It was easy to put on with just 3 screws. Don't know if they have a size for the '10 though.

Not meaning to hijack your thread....

Can anyone tell me which exhaust tip is the most current one?
I called to order and the tech told me that there is a new one (P/N 00016-48935 ~$40) that supersedes (PT932-89100 ~ $55). Both are supposedly still available and I am not sure which one to order.

I just installed PT932-89100 on my 2011. Fit great, spacers fit all the way inside. Just push the tip all the way on and align it with the rear bumper cover.

Is it just me or should a factory exhaust tip being added to a factory exhaust be that difficult to apply?

No it should'nt be but it is tricky as peaople have been described above. Takes a little patience to get it right.
