It is the real deal. Bought mine from Shaun a couple years back (for $700 then), and it has saved me around $5k in warranty issues - mostly electronics. The warranty pulls right up on the local dealer's computer - sweet!

It has saved you $5000? You've got your money out of it (which is good), but that really scares me. What kind of problems has your 4Runner had?
Most people don't purchase a Toyota expecting $5000 worth of problems.

Yes thank you Alaskaman - weather here right now is excellent. Going to take my Harley out for a blast today, if the wife will let me.

I think the threads that come up searching "Shaun McKinsey" have the details. Let's see if I remember:

1. VSC computer & yaw sensor - wanted to pull the truck off the road to the right (not as bad as pulling towards oncoming traffic! LOL)

2. Tachometer went out - entire instrument panel/gauges replaced

3. Trip computer - a back-light LED went out - had to replace entire board

4. Rear JBL tweeter went out

5. Low gear transfer case solenoid failed

6. Lumbar seat motor failed

7. Clunking drive shaft replaced - still no noise!

8. A few minor things I've forgotten, and don't feel like digging out the paper work.

When I got the truck used with 29k on it, I wondered if I should get the extended warranty - because after all, it's a Toyota! I had both service technicians and Shaun tell me while the mechanicals were pretty much bullet proof, however, it was the electronics that will getcha! They were right, as most of those things are electronic or electrical related. (this is supposedly true for all manufacturers these days, with more electronic sophistication)

Another 4R owner in Arizona has had some electronic issues too, and we're thinking that it might have to do with the extreme heat here. Plus, I tow a good sized travel trailer, and there are some 3,000-5,000' climbs out of the Phoenix area. Combine that with well over a 100 degrees, and that is an extreme workout!

So just let me add that the mechanicals have been bullet proof. The temperature gauge NEVER moves, even when pulling the trailer up steep grades in the summer, and the transmission has been great (upgraded cooler/fan & guage). And I figure this - let the things go out that need to, while under warranty. I haven't had any failures (I don't count the clunking drive shaft) in about 20k miles, and I have another 18k to go on the 100k Platinum warranty.

And I think I read that anything that Toyota replaces, if it fails again ANYTIME, they will replace it free - CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS?

what of it - my cash my decision.

I see this as nothing more than a bit more insurance. I take your points about what is and is not included - all valid and good to know.

My only point was, for those of us who do choose to buy some insurance, I managed to get some for 1/2 of what my local guy tried to sell it to me for.

all the best to all of you

Joe

No offense intended. I bought my 4Runner instead of a BMW X5 BECAUSE of Toyotas reputation for relability. I wanted the BMW, but it is totally standard to buy those expensive extended warranty because they are so gawd awful to repair.
I have a 95 Tacoma that has 155,000 and has had nothing but normal maintanance and 1 alternator.
That's not abnormal. And I all I meant to say.

Peace out. :bigok:
