Hello everyone!
Since Ive found reading through peoples build threads to be fairly enjoyable and also gave me ideas of how to take care of my truck, i decided to write my activities with my 4runner here on the forums to hopefully give back to this community and also provide a online "record" of what i do with this truck.
While I do not plan on making a trophy truck out this vehicle, I plan on recording all my routine maintenance and upgrades along with any tips or tricks i came across while doing them. Ill try to include like links to the products and websites I've purchased or used so that others may find useful advice from this as time goes on.
With that all said, My truck is a 2005 4x4 SR5 White V6 T4R.
Below is a chronological list of all activities ive performed on this vehicle and ill add photos too!
-Bought the truck on august 2nd for 8.9k from a freind @ 191k miles
Free 2 Inch OME lift kit included with purchase
-Installed OME lift kit
- Purchased and replaced FR axle since original one from purchase had destroyed boot+joint
-Replaced FR axle AGAIN as the one purchased prior was not of the same - specs. BE WARY WHEN YOU BUY AFTERMARKET AXLES. LOTS OF CHINESIUM ONES THESE DAYS.
Bought axle seals at this time too, diff and wheel side.
-Installed JOYING android head unit
-Installed REXING Dashcam
-Replaced FR wheel replaced wheel bearing. I now know that area of my car far too well. The trucks ride now feels EXCELLENT. no vibrations at 60+ MPH anymore!!
-Formatted and updated JOYING head unit (mainly to get root for future software additions) and made hardwire link to OBD2 port for high-speed data logging.
-Replaced gear oil in center and rear diffs (front was changed with axle replacement) (Redline was used for all diffs. I can link a study performed that demonstrates the difference in qualities of Gear Oils and how Redline is in the top 3 for almost all categories.
-Replaced Engine Oil + Filter, found part of the threading for the oil filter stripped
tore the tiny bit off and moved on. Dont over torque your oil filter!!
-Purchased a front and rear license plate camera. (Front one is installed upside down for better perception of obstacles offroad)
-P0420 code finally trigged Check Engine light, i have been aware of it for quite a while since its been "pending" in memory. Codes reset and now waiting for it to trigger again as it requires two drive cycles to post a CEL, its now been a month since code reset. All parts (CAT, Exhaust gaskets, and O2) sensor have been purchased ahead of time.
-First rain storm that the 4runner stayed outside for, and i discovered a leak at the seam between the windshield and the roof of the car. How i discovered? I took a hard right turn and the car squirted water into my eyes. Purchased Windshield Sealant and have applied it. Seems the leak was arrested for now...
-A tire decided to get winter-ready and grab a single screw as a stud, which means im now looking for new tires!
- Purchased and installed a Rola Roof Basket with the extension! Waiting on the Lower kit to arrive for the basket still.
