Factory HU, Sub DIY help...

Hu: 1998 SR5 V6
Amp: 4-channel 600-watt
I'm just running 2 subs, bridged mono at 4ohms

So, I checked the back of HU, does not look like there is RCA outputs.

The Amp tells me to splice in using the "high-level input" rear:
White = Left (+)
White/Black = Left (-)
Black (ground)
Gray = Right (+)
Gray/Black = Right (-)

First ?: What COLOR is the remote terminal on HU for the power antenna/amplifier turn-on lead?

Second ?: What COLOR wires from HU do I use for the "high-level input"

Now, do I just spice in-line to the rear speakers to run subs. I've hooked up Hu and subs before but with a HU that had the "easy" RCA sub outputs.

I've done a search but unable to get specifics.

I'm not sure about the antenna wire to be honest.

For a LOC you could try Crutchfield or ebay.

I'm not sure how good it is though.

The good thing about Crutchfield is their customer service. They might send instructions or you could call them and they would talk you through it.

The pictures are from a fairly close distance and the sun was pretty bright, so the tint might look a little lighter than it would in other situations.

Nice clean ride.

So, tried to install subs 2day, got a problem;
I spliced into rear right/left (+) and (-) wires. I think I did not get the remote on wire correct. The rear speakers work put sub shows no power and no boom-boom!

Do you think this on will work for remote on?:

Yeah that sounds right. I think that will make them come on when the car is started.

Need more help!

Okay, I got it all hooked up.

Bought a LOC with adjustable levels.

System worked for 2min then no sound out of subs!!

Checked 12v fuse:good.
Checked amp fuses:good.
Amp shows power light green:good.

What do you think?
All I can think is the converter is toast. I had the levels on max.
This suc*s!!
I cant wait to get an alpine HU!!

Any ideas would be great.

CHECK YOUR GROUND...


cant tell you how many times i ripped everything apart to later find out all it was, was my ground wire came loose...

If ground at amp there would be no power...correct?
How about the ground for LOC?
Shop dude told me I dont need it, unless noice or bad sound?
It just told make sense.
1 min. it works and then nothing. Truck was stationary.
Might pick up a second converter to test...

Maybe it was because the settings were maxed out. I know that with amps, turning the gains to the max can cause problems. Maybe it is the same in this case.

I'm lookin to do the same thing and I'm definitely not a car audio noob but I just bought an 04 sport edition and looking to put in my Alpine 10" Type-X for a little more thump but keep everything else stock for the time being. Now when you splice in the line-out converter do you lose your rear speakers? Everyone keeps saying splice into one of your rears but do you reconnect it back in line. Normally I would think this would put too high of an impedance onto the factory amp.

So the question is:

How do you run a line-out converter to a sub amp and still keep your rears?

connecting a LOC to the rear speakers does not mean you have to disconnect then. All an LOC does is take a high voltage signal and covert it to a low-voltage signal. Your rear speaker outputs aren't actually powering the subs, so you aren't increasing the impedance on the rear outputs.

Thanks for the info tarheel...I finished putting it in yesterday and have a turned way down so its just a little more bass than I had with just the speakers and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out since I'm usually not a fan of doing an add on sub instead of redoing the whole system.
