factory radio for JBL Factory radio

I just got a new 2005 4runner and got the 6 speaker standard CD/Tape player radio. I want to replace it with the JBL radio that has the 6 disc changer in the unit. How do I take this first radio out of the truck without ripping up the dash? I am also assuming that this other 2005 4runner JBL radio will fit right in where the other one was with no problems and no new wiring harness. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The JBL won't fit. There are different harnesses, as the JBL system is a 10 speaker system versus the 6 speaker standard system. Also, the JBL and the non-JBL are two different sized decks; I believe the JBL is wider. Also, you'd have to take the panels around the radio off to get it out. With the JBL system, I believe the head unit does not have a built in amplifier as the amplifier is in the back.

Yup, won't work. The JBL is a digital unit using an external amp and the stock 6-speaker unit is an analog unit with an internal amp. Different wiring completely. Your best bet is to get an aftermarket unit or put in a 6-disc Scion unit like a lot of us have done.

I called the Toyota dealership and the manager in the parts department told me that it would work? What needs to be done to make it work or will it just not work?

Won't work. Do the Scion switch. The radio fits the opening and sounds better than what you have. Also, it is pretty cheap. Do a search for Scion. Good luck.

Yes don't waste your time going with JBL. Go with the SCION unit. Its more cost effective and it plays MP3s, something the JBL can't.
