failed inspections

Well I failed inspections yesterday ,because of an exhaust leak. So I've decided to go ahead and replace the whole exhaust system . My question is whether or not I should install a highflow cat and either a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler . Would it benefit ,or just put another stock exhaust?

Do you want a louder exhaust?

I personally wouldn't go with a stock one because I'm sure they are probably very expensive.

I would pick out a muffler and a high flow cat an take them to a exhaust shop and have them install those along with new pipes and you should be good.

That's what I was thinking,but don't know the best muffler to go with. Nothing to loud but better flow.any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I would say go with the flowmaster but keep all the pipe stock. It shouldn't be that loud but have more of a nice growl to it.

I would say either the Flowmaster 50 series or Magnaflow 24".

From what I can tell its leaking around the exhaust manifold flange. I put my hand down around that area on a cold start and found exhaust leaking at the flange . Also I pin pointed it with a seafoam treatment. I like the flowmaster but ill see when I get to the muffler shop.

if your already re and reing your exhaust system why not do the intake too and run a turbo or supercharger :lasercannon:

I have LCE Headers and a 2-1/4" all the way back to a Magnaflow. I'm running a 2" CARB compliant CC, and it sounds good.

One recommendation, if going to headers, keep the O2 sensor as close as possible to the collector of the headers as you'll be required to move it from the exhaust manifold. It will run better all around. I'm in the process of going to a 4-wire O2 sensor now to help me even more.

If your goal is to get the vehicle to pass inspection then why not just replace the flange gasket and get your inspection to pass?

Flange gaskets leak all the time, I change them at my shop several times a month on customers cars.

Now, if your crossover pipe flange gasket is leaking then that one will be a pia to replace, you have one flange on the passenger side, then it crosses over to the drivers side manifold, then the down pipe flange feeds the exhaust.

I'd just take it to a local exhaust shop for advice.

Upon further inspection I found that the flange to the crossover / manifold was where the leak was . I found the three studs were hand loose ,so I tighten them up and there is no leak anymore and I passed inspection.
