Falken's Wildpeak 265/70R17 is the way to go

Can't speak for the 265/70, but I've had the 285/70 (going 285/75 next) for ALMOST 60k miles and they're still going strong. About a month ago, had a tire shop tell me that they probably shouldn't "need" replaced for another 20k or so just based on how they looked.

I've been considering these but haven't been able to find much info on them.
I had 265 wildpeaks on my 4th gen and liked them a lot and traded it in with only around 10k miles on them for my now 14 SR5. It's a daily driver and will be a mall crawler and see snow a few times a year and basic fire tower trails but nothing too rough so I don't need anything extreme.
 
I recall quite a few posts ago that some concern about the origin of manufacture came up. I checked this morning and they’re all made in the Far East country of Japan. FTW!!!

These are for the Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 265/70/17 LT E Load.

Had 265s then went to 285/70s I love these tires in all conditions. I only get about 10,000 miles out of them though. That sucks but I love the performance.

I had those on mine and loved them. Wore great, fantastic in the snow, and pretty good off road too. Then I lifted my truck and went 285's in wildpeaks. SL rated, made in china. They were horrible. Great traction and looked great, weren't all that loud even. They just weren't actually round. I sent them back and 9 months later I finally got a refund. I bought Toyo AT3's to replace those and they were nice and smooth but wore horribly even with 5k mile rotations and I didn't find them to be particularly great in the snow. Didn't hold a candle to the ATX's in any category. Now I just bought Yoko G015's. A much milder tread design but they have been great in snow. They are dead silent though. Kinda like the stock tires except they actually have some grip.
 
I just got some stock sizes Wildpeak’s installed today at Discount Tire. I was thrilled to find they are made in Japan!

First impressions are that they obviously look much better than the factory tires, and at the same time the increase in road noise is marginal. Can’t wait to try them out in some snow and on some trails.
 
Wildpeaks were the worst tires I have ever owned. Owned a set on my 2017 fx4 and they were ok. Recommended for my brothers truck and they would not balance and got really loud but at the time they were cheap 128 a tire. I figured I would try a set on my 2020 Trd. The wildpeaks looked great, but having to have them balanced 5 times in 10k miles was awful. Luckily discount tire gave me my money back and I have had zero issues out of my copper rugged treks and look as good. On. A separate note the Wildpeaks mad in Thailand were a lot better then the ones I got made in America
 
I've had the same tires for 20k miles. I'm very happy with them in the northeast. great in the sand/snow/rain/ dirt fire roads. they do get a little louder with wear but not much that you will hate them .
 
So I just got my first 4runner (3rd gen still stock on weight) and it came with these tires (they took 17s from a 4th gen). I'm a completely noob with offroad and on the first trip I got invited on a week and a half ago the other guys in the group were a little hesitant on me airing down too much given these don't have as much sidewall as say same diameter on 16s. They ended up having me only go down to 25 which was a little harsh (although I realized on the way down that I was super tense and that mellowed out the ride quite a bit when I told myself to be more relaxed). What pressures have y'all gone down to with this size? I know this is the 5th gen forum so it's not going to be perfect apples to apples but I should be able to air down at least as much as you guys since I'm 800-900lbs lighter than you guys are stock.

Depends on load rating. Are they SL, LTC or LTE?

When I had 265 SLs, my go to was 18psi. Have gone down to 15 in certain instances such as sand.

I think they were more doing it out of caution on the sidewall height and them personally having no experience with these tires (I had some previous experience using them on my Nissan Rogue for winter driving, obviously smaller size and not airing them down). Is this an issue of (IIRC) these tires having only 2 ply sidewalls? What is probably the lowest you would dare to go in a rocky trail scenario?

Yes, it is an issue of 2-ply sidewalls. They are generally not designed to be aired down for off-road applications.

FWIW my Falkens (same same) purchased 7/22 were also made in Japan.
 
Just put these tires on (stock size, SL rating) from KO2 (stock size, C load). The Falken's are way better in the rain. A good thing living in rainy Vancouver Canada. Glad I made the switch!
