Well...Ever since I got the truck, once in a long while would it give me hassles about starting, just clicking. Then I would wait for a bit, and try again, and she would fire right up. Eventually, I broke down at the mechanic...
Funny story, but it finally refused to start for good at the mechanic - I was there dropping my chainsaw off for a resharpening (the mechanics' dad does a really good job for $5, has a machine, IIRC), and the 4Runner just refused to start... So I figured since it was already there, I would let them do it... Got the contacts for them for $20 at the dealer, and it took them most of a day to get it done... around $110 for labor, and $20 for parts, so $130 total. New starter altogether was $100 (no core charge) and probably would've been another $80 in labor, so I still came out ahead. Next time, I'll do it, hopefully.
Mileage: 102,460.

Being limited on my cash flow and as a student, my mods are very slow... But, my latest one, that I've been waiting for since June, is my custom license plate ($30)... I have mixed feelings about it.
For those of you who don't know, I'm profoundly deaf (think 90%+ hearing gone), so this is sort of a way to let other drivers know, even though I'm not sure how I like people judging me before they meet/pass me on the highway. We'll see what it's like!

Ultragauged!
I finally got an Ultragauge, something I've been wanting for some time, especially for MPG info. I've just gotten back from a long, 450+ mile trip covering all kinds of terrain, from off road, to interstate, to highway, and it has been awesome getting all kinds of stats out of it. Like many do, I installed it using the [awesome] suction cup that comes with it next to the A-pillar, it's where I can see it best, but out of the way... Highly recommend this device!

Two minor updates...
Two minor updates for the Rig in the last few weeks.
First, the sleeping/storage platform has always bugged me, as "unfinished"... It bothered me that the edges of the platform were rough and whenever I went off road, the whole thing shook around and fell apart and rubbed all over the rear interior plastics (which I hate, I want to keep this truck in good shape for a very long time!)... (Lesson learned; don't let a chainsaw bounce around too much, it WILL scratch things up big time even with all kinds of padding and stuff around it! I must off road too hard)
The solution was to take some old bicycle tubing that I had lying around (taken of bikes because of flats) and cut it in half lengthwise and use a commercial staple gun to staple it around the edges... The tubing was really easy to clean and cut with scissors, and I stretched it a little bit and it works great!
You can see it around the edges - I have the front portion of the platform sitting on top of the rear part, as I've been hauling humans around a lot lately.

The other thing I did to the sleeping platform was add these two doors to the back - it also bugged me that, pre-doors, one could see all kinds of stuff in there, and I also wanted the doors as a way of expanding my storage area. I have a bunch of plastic containers around, and I figured on supergluing them to the inside of the doors, and then when I swing out the doors, it's like a opening rack of things...

In the above picture, you can see the small plastic container (empty) that I plan on gluing to the door. But my idea isn't perfect yet, because I can't take on and off the lids with the body of the container glued to the door, that's too hard. I want some kind of cage or some kind of mounting options for various things, like a rack to hold the containers or some kind of hardware to hold tools or something else securely... So I'm still brainstorming on that, any ideas would be most welcome!
The second minor update was that I got a used Hi-Lift jack for $30 locally, I'm not sure if that's a great price, but they are around $50-60 or more on Amazon new, so I figured that was a good price. It's an older one it seems, I may spray paint it, would that hurt anything?

Great inspiration! I just got my 2000 4Runner a couple weeks ago...looks almost EXACTLY like yours...mine is millennium silver (almost white), with the same ARB bumper. Need to get some of those front lights though, I'm digging those!

good find on the hi-lift. I would pull it apart into as many seperate pieces as I could, and sand blast it, and have it painted at a local shop. Instead of asking for a specific color, just whatever left over red they have laying around, so as to keep it as cheap as possible. The quality will last longer and resist chipping. All said and done, bolt it back together, just like new. Probably could even hunt down some new stickers for it.

those boots look like Whites?? Either I'm getting a Dori moment or i didn't know you were a fire fighter, even cooler you get to take your own rig. I'm jealous of your sleeping platform. Danner Flashpoint II's. and no, I'm not a firefighter... As some know already, I'm profoundly deaf - so they won't let me firefight, though it has been my dream to wildland firefight for the NPS or the BLM... I do wear the boots for my job hiking all summer.

ah! i was close lol the tallness got me. I love Danners though, I did an internship for DNR one summer and rocked a pair of Danners, they are a comfy boot! It looks like they let you get pretty close to the action you must know some people? Do they let you, help mop up or anything like that?

They are high boots, but I like them that way, they also help to serve as protection against rattlesnakes when I'm out in the field.
The physical test for wildland firefighting is 3 miles with a 45 lb. pack in 45 minutes. on a track lol. harder than it sounds!
And, no, they don't let me anywhere near the action lol. I do know a number of wildland firefighters though, we have quite a large number of them that live in my area...
Working for DNR was probably a lot of fun, what did you do for them?
