I really like the more muscular look of the 2006 Bodywise, but the one thing I cannot stand is the crappy round black outlined Nissan X-terra looking Fog Lamps!!! My Gosh it doesnt even match the rest of the SUV!!! The Front is really Buff looking and then you get those ugly round fog lamps!!! I have a 2005 and would take those fog lamps any day!!!!! Also I think as far as the inside I like my 2005! Did anyone else notice that cheap Odometer Button the 2006 has? Its like the one I had on my 1997 GMC Yukon!!! So outdated!!!!

LOL. My dad said the same thing, why didn't they make the fogs like the 05+ Tacoma.

Actually, the foglight trim does match something on the truck. It matches the B-pillar dimples/golf ball trim between the front and rear door glass. I've noticed that when I was waxing the truck. I think the change in fog was for simplicity, so the turn signals are now in the headlight cluster rather than down below in the bumper.

The seperate buttons on the 2003-05 for the trip and odometer was nice and placed in a better location than inside the gauge on the 06. Oh wells, I like the updates Toyota did for '06 and either way I look at it, the 4th gen is still the best looking SUV out there.

03-05:

The sqaure wheel wheels look more rugged/masculine. Grille looks better. Rear bumper lense looks better with than without. Fog lights look better. Rear trim above license plate looks better(I dont think chrome belongs on a 4Runner.)

06-current:

Headlights are better, LED tail lights look better also(bought a set for my 05). Sidesteps for Sport looks nicer than the black ones.

I like the 03-05 better.

I have the best of both worlds. The 03-05 look with the 06-07 LED tail lights.

I think the 06 looks too car-like. I do like the look of the new sport edition the most if I had to choose. I also like the new grilles.

I love how my '05 looks - very aggressive with the straight fender design. However, I love how my '07 SE looks (even more aggressive especially with the new grill, bumper, and headlights), it's looks bad@ss especially in Shadow Mica. Truly the best of both for me.

I waited for rounded fenders before I purchased. The wait also provided LED's, and better headlights. Gotta go 06!

Although, the Shockworks bumper looks better on 03-05's with the square fenders.

I've owned both an 03 Sport and an 06 Sport. I love my 06 (projector headlights, LED taillights, rounded fenders), but I'll have to say that my 03 was pretty damn sharp. It was the first 4Runner I ever owned though, so it holds a soft spot in my heart! Kinda like your first love I suppose!

Ditto. I just got my '07 Sport after surrendering my '04 Sport (lease was almost up) and although I love the changes I'm very partial to the '04 because it was my first 4R. This may sound really stupid but when I drove off the lot leaving my '04 behind I kinda felt sad.

had to vote '03- '05. The new fenders/wheel wells look too much like the older generation 4Runner to me, and yes as someone else mentioned, too car like.

I like the fog light cluster and front bumper of the 03-05. Otherwise, everything else 06-07 especially the SE. Of course I'm bias.

It's all about the 03-05s. The 03's with cladding in particular. Especially the 03's with cladding in titanium. :

I originally wanted a 3rd gen 4Runner but it was a bit underpowered, but I had to get out of the 1999 Heep GC because it was wasting too much of my time taking it to the dealership for repairs, so I got rid of the Heep and bought an 03 SR5 but the styling never grew on me especially the rear bumper shape And when the 06 came out I said "wow" that looks like a 3rd gen, so I ended up trading the 03 for an 06 .

if i had it my way i'd stick with my 04 and just add those rounded off wheelarches. i think the 04 ones are too wedgy,.. then again the grass is always greener on the other side.

as long as it's a 4 runner/surf who cares about the outside,.. that's the stuff which should be hidden/covered by mud/dirt anyways,.. right?

I like different things about each. The LED tails are cool, so I got a set for mine. The biggest difference visually is the rounded versus squared wheel well openings. They both look good, but I agree with the guy that said the tires seem like they are set too far in because of the fender flares on the '06 and newer models.

Exterior and interior were slightly changed on '06 model.
Interior: New claster, different trim
Exterior: New front and rear bumpers, Projector headlights, LED taillights, New side steps, New roof rails, New fender style, New hood, New grille, 18" rims on Limited.
