Fender extensions

Heck a cop tried telling me I needed a windshield in a old truck of mine that was vandalized I asked him to show me the code in which I was breaking, he couldn't come up with one so he let me go.

Ha! That's ridiculous. Well I texted the owner of the '01, and he said he has 12" wide wheels AND 1.5" wheel spacers. Man, that is ridiculous. I was worried I'd stick out like his so it compelled me to ask him. after doing the 16x10's; but I'm also removing my Spidertrax 1.25" WS. I can't go that wide. I only want to stick out about 3/4" from my fenders. I'm taller so I want SOME stance, but nothing extreme like them.

I put some of those on my 88 Bronco II when I was 16 (14 years ago). I got them from JC Whitney. They didnt look half bad and I used sheet metal screws I got from working as a electrician. Budget mod all the way.

Yeah there's more to the story like safety goggles and working windshield wipers lol.

12 wide and 1.5" spacers his scrub radios must have sucked.. That look and no offense to anyone but looks like the Hmong style, and does not look good at all.

So what happens when someone from out of state crosses the boarder with tires sticking out? Can they be ticketed?

out of staters can be ticketed and probably run a greater chance of it too... as the officer knows they probably wont come back to fight the ticket and it then becomes a source of revenue and an easy one at that.

semis have different rules that apply to them as they are a commercial vehicle and by there nature can not run fenders on the rear. thats how they get away with it. technically buggies and the likes are not legal without fenders. and in CA i know the CHP like to go after that kinda thing. most states have a rule/law/code on tires and fenders ect, now weather or not it gets enforced is another thing. technically in OR. you can be ticketed for having a sticker in the window, because it technically obstructs the view. i have never heard of someone getting a ticket for that, but anything that obstructs the view can be a citable violation, -mud, stickers, shade nets ect ect ect.

the best way i have found to keep the man off your back when pushing the rules, is to drive sainly, have a clean vehciel, and have a vehicle that looks presentable, not a jalopy... if you rig is clean, and is not something that looks like madmax would drive they will probably let you push the limits without singling you out. but officers do stereotype(because it works), and so they will go after you for a small infraction like one of these, in hopes that they will find something bigger. at which point they will drop the no mud flaps or tires too far outside ticket and go for the bigger item ect. but if there is nothing bigger to get you with then yeah you are getting the tires stick out too much ticket...

Having been to Cali multiple times I can attest to the fact you do not need fenders, the code states fenders or splash aprons. That truggy I posted meets all chp regs, and it is because his flaps cover his whole tire width and past the centerline of the axle.
Fenders, Mudflaps (§27600):*"Adequate protection" that's "at least as wide as the tire tread"
You are correct about semi trucks being a different category I miss read something.

having lived in california and grown up there i know that CHP will ticket you for it, unless the laws have changed in the last 10 years. i would see it all the time leaving tahoe area. they would pull over buggies and truggies all the time, and us the fenderless thing as their "in" or PC. then they would look for the vehicle to not be registered or street legal ect and if they could not find something more serious they would get ticketed for the lack of fenders, even with mudflaps...

CA Codes (veh:27600-27607)

read the first paragraph, it states that you need fenders...

"No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or
more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with
fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons..."
the key word there is "including" its not a one or the other type of deal. where the mud flaps come in to play and will get you by is if you have a fendered vehicle and the fenders do not cover low enough on the on the tire, such as say a lifted vehicle... thats when the mud flaps will be enough, but both the mud flaps(if needed) and the fenders ect need to be as wide as the tire and cover the greater portion of the tire
