Finally Bought a 3rd Gen!

After months of searching and acting too late, finally bought a 3rd Gen.

2000 SR5: V6, 5spd M/T, 121k miles. It's red, but that can always change. Can't wait to get home from deployment and take it for a spin.

Had a 1999 LR Disco for a long time. Loved driving it, but I'm pretty sure I ended up paying for my mechanic to buy a boat. Literally had a spreadsheet to budget maintenance costs on that thing.

Overcorrected and bought a Toy Highlander after that. Never had to do anything but oil changes and tire rotations, but it was sooo boring to drive.

Think I hit the sweet spot with the T4R. Go anywhere, fun to drive, and with 121k miles, should last forever!

The 5 speeds are pretty rare. I think you will enjoy it.

My buddy had a Land Rover back about 2007/8 (it was only a couple years old at the time) and it was a complete piece of shit.

He had it back at the dealer I believe three times for electrical issues and after the third time dumped it before the warranty ran out. I pity the person that bought it. It looked great but was a turd with pretty paint and leather seats.

I drove it once and was underwhelmed to say the least. You can only make a 50 year old aluminum GM V8 engine design perform so well. It didn't.

I enjoyed driving my '99 quite a bit, but I was always worried about making it home. This is my 3rd Toyota V6 ('93 Camry, '07 Highlander), and I've never had that feeling of dread over what's going to break next!
 
Sounds like it needs new tires right off the bat. Any recommendations for the stock 16" steel rims on a 2000, at stock height?

A good at in the 265 75 16 flavor. General grabber at, bfg at (I've always loved those tires). People also like the duratracs. Great find... Not too many low mileage 5speeds out there.
 
Well, I hope it's good. One owner, 121k miles, CA vehicle, clean carfax, Toyota... The odds are in my favor, but you never know until you start putting the miles on it. I'd still rather replace a clutch than an a/t. Last two vehicles were auto, and I just didn't feel like I was driving. Plus, I don't live in the city anymore.

I recommend 235/85/R16 tires. There is a lot of controversy over wide vs. narrow tires, but what I've read, narrow is better in everything except deep mud and snow. They also give that proper Toyota look!

proper Toyota look ? mine came stock with 265....wouldn't that be proper ?
but a norrower tire with nore of a street tread will help with mpg

He's most likely referring to the Toyotas you see in Asia or Middle East with the pizza cutter tires.
 
First Pic. Not the greatest, but more to follow. Wife and daughter picked it up today. Looks great inside and out. Not too thrilled that they put Wrangler RT/S on, but that can (eventually) be rectified.

Mine had the wrangler rt/s on when I got my truck, too. I found out pretty quickly what the "S" stands for. Replaced them with Cooper discoverer at3 in 265/75r16 and I've been very happy with them.
