Finally did it! Drove a 4th gen with a V8!!!

I am new to 4runners and their V8's, but I have to say that I am so glad I ended up getting the V8 in my '04. It sounds amazing, but it is so smooth and when you step on it there is some serious get-up-and-go to it. For me it is perfect and I am in love with it.

I have a v8 sport, i originally wanted a v6 for mpg but when i test drove it, it just blew me away. The thing is so smooth i dont feel any gear changes at all, wont ever trade it for anything. Ive already had ppl ask me about it as they dont see them/cant find them anymore!

I bought an 03' V8 Sport just because they came out that year. Always wanted a 4R but never a V6. Always been a V8 kinda guy. Been lovin it ever since. I wish they had color matched cladding available when I bought it. The 4th generation 4R's are awesome. I test drove the 5th generation 4R's and in my humble opinion they don't come close to the previous generation. A rock solid truck!:boxer:

hmmmm, wondering what V8 you drove. The V6 is faster? Not a chance!

2005 V6 specs: 245 hp @ 5200 rpm / 282 ft-lbs torque @ 3800 rpm
2005 V8 specs: 270 hp @ 5400 rpm / 320 ft-lbs torque @ 3400 rpm

I'm not hating on the V6, I actually really like that engine but the V8 is not slower!!

I drove two. 04/07 the 07 was better, but wasn't as good in my opinion as the v6. I only tow a small trailer and have no need for the v8. A 2003 v8 awd 0-60 - 7.9, 2005 v6 0-60 - 7.1

Let's be honest, nobodys racing these trucks. But the differences from a Toyota v6 and v8 is not like the difference between other truck v6 and v8. So for me a paid more for a v6 than the v8.

I'm not trying to start a 6 or 8 war, as long as it's a yota. For me, I had a tacoma (6) and a 4runner (6) both with plenty of power.

I drove both and decided the v8 limited was best

same here... I drove both up the steepest part of my commute back home in the foothills west of Denver... and yes, the V8 Limited won

So, For those of you that have driven and possibly owned both the non VVT-i and the motor with it, what do you think the major difference is?

I am selling my SAS'd 2000 4runner. Its supercharged with a URD 7th injector on it, so its pushing around 240hp anyway. But, I am needing a 4th gen for product development. I am dead set on the V8, but obviously I can get a much better deal on a 03/04 right now. The question is, is the 05+ motor worth the extra $$$ to get it? Is the extra 30HP really worth it?

Oh, and do you know how hard it is to find a V8 with the 3rd row for a decent price? Let alone the black or Charcoal gray I want? lol.

Hopefully, someday soon, the decision makers at Toyota will realize that those of us with V8s will be leaving the Toyota brand when we have to replace our 4Runners if the current generation does not fill our needs. (for towing power and towing capacity).

Also, what is up with the 4.6L V8 only being available in the Tundra with some funky option combinations?

I had a tacoma,2005, and always dreamed of putting a 4.7 in it. When I looked at 4runners, I told my wife I would be getting a V8. No question. I drove the 4.7 and it was slower and lugged down to pull where the V6 had more pep. I sat and question my man-hood... How could I ever want the smaller, less powerful engine? I got a V6 because I don't have thing to tow and like to drive fast.

Honestly a 3UR-FE (5.7L) would be an awesome addition to the 4Runner if not overkill, a 1UR-FE (4.6L) Would be perfect for the new 4Runners. My only complaint with these two engines is that unlike the 2UZ-FE (4.7L) they were designed with Cast Aluminum engine blocks, which makes me wary in a vehicle like a truck or SUV. But that is my opinion.

And I love my '04 SE V8 4WD

a 5.7 would be BAMF!!

Haven't driven both but the curves tell the story.

Very close to about 3000rpm. Small difference from there to about 4k. Substantial above that and vvti revs out a few hundred rpms higher.

The difference probably doesn't reveal itself much in typical driving.
