Finally got to take out the t4r first time offroad...

After owning my Toyota for 1.5 months now I finally got a chance to hit the trails this weekend. I am very impressed with it. Went to 2 different intermediate trails and it did great on both of them. After owning 4 jeeps I was a little sketchy about how the 4runner would do but I am a believer now!

Unfortunately due to a busy schedule I don't get to go out that much and when I do it's usually just my son and I (like this weekend when my wife spent all weekend helping her sister prepare for her wedding). So when I do get to go we have no back up and I think that I need to look into getting a winch. I was curious if anyone has put a winch on a stock 3rd gen bumper? Did a quick search but didn't find much. Suggestions are appreciated. I don't really wheel enough these days to justify dropping a ton of money into it so I'm looking for the most cost effective yet sufficient fix for this issue in case I was to ever get stuck. Thanks!!

Good to hear that you had a good time and like the 4runner. I will tell you that a solid axle rig like a jeep usually can go where an IFS vehicle can't but with enough skill, a good driver can kick some solid axle butt. I enjoy having that front wheel 3'-4' in the air and keep going. Part of the fun.

So what type of affordable front bumper options that will support a winch are there out there?

Surely I'm not the only one who falls into the "have to wheel by myself mostly and want a winch without selling the farm" category.

Not sure bOut toyotas but I know the arb front bumper and winch combos for jeeps run bout 2k after its all said and done

Someone suggested to me to have a 2 inch receiver welded on to the front of the 4runner (like the hitch on the back of your 4runner) and then you could mount a winch on that receiver if you needed to get out of a situation. That must cost less than a new winch.
