First Time Owner Mistake

I'm a first time owner of a Toyota 4Runner Trail and made the big mistake of trying to make a tight turn while in H4 on dry pavement... (The snow had melted throughout the day and I was getting out of a parking spot) I also made the mistake of forcing it (continuing to accelerate) while I was turning because I didn't know what the issue was. There was the feeling of binding. After reading up on some threads I will never do that again! The big question is how do I know whether or not I did any damage? Thanks!

I doubt you damaged anything but your pride. You will always feel "binding" while in 4WD doing a tight turn. One of the tires needs to drag, cause they both turn at the same rate.

I'm sure that someone will chime in with a more technical explanation.

don't feel bad, you're not the first person and won't be the last. i think i was 18 when i learned that wheels turn at different speeds. i was messing around in a rented jeep in a busy parking lot. it felt like the tires were jumping off the ground. made a lot of noise and i was totally embarrassed.

you didn't damage the 4x4 system. just don't do it all the time, unless of course the truck is rented.

I you did any real damage, chances are you would have heard it. Snap, crunch, bang, grind. Hear any of these? If not don't worry about it. You're good.
