I'm going to go a little contrary to the group here, and suggest you go with the Weathertech mats and any planned "interior" upgrades first, and the SAVE up a bit more to get new tires and lift at the same time (assuming you'd like to lift it at some point - Highly likely). If you buy tires first, and then decide to lift several months later....you'll likely wind up dumping your relatively new tires because you won't like how they look with the lift. If you're sure you won't be lifting it, then go for the tires first....but I'm betting you're already thinking you want to build this, so best bang-for-buck is to lift and swap tires at the same time.

Since you work for the state I'm sure you just saw that raise in your paycheck? I would say don't spend it all in one place, but that's kinda hard not to do.
It's been 3 months since you started this thread. What did you decide to get?
ha, yeah i got a raise... but because i work for dpi all it amounted to was $500 a year before taxes. went with the shrockworks bumper. just playing the waiting game now.

um, stock suspension + Shrockworks front bumper = snowplow.
too late to reconsider the following advice/order of things?
suspension will be here before the bumper gets made/shipped which i'm expecting to be sometime in dec/jan

Going to do almost the exact same setup as you in a couple weeks! Where do you recommend for the Interior cargo/map/door LED upgrades? Thanks.
i bought some off amazon, which comes with everything you need for the 4runner. however, i ended up replacing them within a month with a complete set from superbrightleds.com the difference was huge.

I appreciate the help! Tons of great reviews over there... Your reverse lights are killer bright and I love it. Can't wait to order 'em up.
What are you looking to do with it? I ask because if it going to be a road/light fire road queen, versus say rugged fire road and trails, your first mods should be different.
If just going to do some light off roading, like a rough gravel road, then you probably do not need to focus much on the functional side as the 4r is pretty well set up for this. So you can explore into more cosmetic/luxury mods. I do not own a 4r, so I have no idea what to suggest for this.
If you plan on doing some more heavy off roading, depending on your environment, you probably would want to focus on some functional mods. I have no idea about the tires, but I guess the verdict is in they should get swapped. I also like things like the hi-lift jack, a foldable shovel, some straps/rope. I also am a bit paranoid and like having a winch as well, but that is just me.
I think you addressed the light issues, having good lighting is important.

Snowplow? Nope.
Each of the stock front springs are 500+# springs. That means the front needs more than 1000 lbs per inch of compression. Adding a 140# bumper to the front will drop the front end by less than 1/4".
I have a Shrockworks bumper on my stock suspension right now. it's not noticeably lower. I will say the large bumper makes the 9 inches of clearance look low, but it's not really lower than it was with the stock bumper.
I am getting an Icon setup put on tomorrow! :boink:
