It actually works really well too. I don't remember where I got the fork mounts, but shop around and you can get them cheap!

So I finally had time to go through your build. Great looking truck, and being a CO guy I think jam always a little biased!!
Also love the Silverton adventure, I live between Montrose and Gunnison now but am building a place in Keystone. We should rally a group in Denver area and do a shredding/wheeling weekend!! You snowmobile??

I agree on the CO thing, there are a LOT of 4Runners here and it's fun seeing them around town once in a while!I'd move up into the mountains in a heart beat if I could get a good job - I'm kinda stuck with corporate-type engineering for the time being, but my long-term goal is to get that direction. Where in Keystone are you building and what do you do for work up there? I am up in Summit (Silverthorne) just about every weekend and/or days off.
I don't yet (keyword) own a sled, but would like to in the near future... need to get a garage first! It's definitely on the list though, particularly for backcountry snowboarding. Speaking of such, a shredding/wheeling weekend sounds awesome - maybe we could spark some interest over in the CO BS thread (Off Topic forum)!

:lalala: The thought has definitely crossed my mind and I keep an eye out for deals because I would love to have one, but it'd be a bit before my wallet could handle that bomb!
I haven't noticed much of a power difference from sea level to elevation, but it would be quite nice to have a little more power for driving in the steep mountain roads. The dealer down the street from my office has a supercharged 5VZ-FE on display in their parts department; it just sits there, mocking me.

I've had a heavily worn driver's side arm rest since I bought my truck and it has always been pretty unsightly/annoying. I looked around for a replacement one, but then I just decided to try my hand at some upholstery work. Relatively harmless, looked easy enough, and didn't require any special tools (e.g., industrial sewing machine). Here's the final product and while it has some minor flaws that you can spot if you really hunt, I'm pretty happy with it overall. I'll get more pics after I get it all installed in my truck again.
The material came from Joanne Fabrics and is a heavy vinyl material with small, raised, circular texture. I used head-liner padding on the backside to give it some structure and headliner adhesive to hold it all together.
If anyone is interested in doing this, the trickiest part is getting the material to seat in the little channel along the door... it just kinda rolls in there without anything to physically hold it in place and I had to re-do a small section to fix some waviness. Patience is the key with this stuff!

I finally took a couple other photos. It's hard to tell from the pics, but there are still some imperfections/waviness in the door panel part (the armrests came out great). Once the weather comes around, I *might* take another swing at that. Still need to tackle the rear doors too.
Overall, I am happy with it and it grows on me each time I get it (I was worried about it coming out like some sort cheap, parking-lot-racer type mod). Definitely better than that weird fuzzy fabric, but it was tedious work. Now I'd really like to get my seats done with similar material too though - they're quickly getting pretty filthy, but the cost is just too steep to justify.

Pictures from Memorial Weekend
Not so much a mod or maintenance post, although I'm getting anxious to get some sliders so I can go on trails without worrying about smashing up my rockers.
Here's a picture of the map of the background... it's just like inception, with less famous people. It was up near Idaho Springs on some private land:
Mt. Evans in the background. Drove up there and climbed the last 150' to the ~14,230 summit. Gonna try and snowboard down it next weekend
Then I headed out towards the Holy Cross area. Everyone appreciates a good bridge, right?
Finally, some super poser shots. Hopefully this summer I'll get more action pics instead!
It was cold enough that even Mackenzie, a Bernese Mountain Dog, needed a sleeping bag.
All in all, it was a great weekend touring around Colorado! I have my eyes on a few trails to tackle as soon as they open - the late season snow has left much of the high rockies pretty wet and or still buried in snow (which is a very good thing right now, considering the water levels).

do you have a write up anywhere on this...what type of material did you use and where did you get it at...i really like this ideal....

Thanks, I think it really brings a nice look to the interior, but...
Forewarning: it's a really tedious job and the adhesive I used has since come loose from the vertical panels, which is partially my fault and partially its fault. As soon as I have some time and weather that is more my style (<70F), I'll be re-doing those pieces.
I bought the uphostery, padding, and adhesive at a JoAnne Fabrics store, they have an actual upholstery section. I bought some stuff that is vinyl-ish, but not the faux-leather one. It has tiny little texture all over that makes it seem pretty industrial. I used spray-adhesive (headliner adhesive) to glue a foam headliner pad to the vinyl stuff. Then I pulled the material off the panels and used them as a template and glued the new cut pieces to the panels. I did not staple the material to the arm rests because I don't have a stapler, but the glue seems to be doing the trick. It took a lot of time and patience to get it just right. It's messy too, that aerosol adhesive stuff is high pressure and kinda gets everywhere.

Did a bit of wheelin' this weekend up by Frisco and Breck. Pretty mild trail, but I was by myself, so I wouldn't have done anything big anyway. Getting out in the mountains and making her do a little work renewed my happiness with the truck! At one point, I lost traction on a steep, loose, rocky section, but I just threw it in 4-Lo and she climbed out of there like it was nothin'...

Looks good! I love the idea of being able to drive where you boarded during the winter... That'd be pretty slick, I think.

Thanks! Yeah, that was kinda why I went up there. Aside from it being a rough gravel road, it's not really tough at all. But it was cool to look at it from another perspective and imagine launching down it at full speed... the snow makes a world of difference ;-)
This IS my first DSLR and I am slowly, but surely loving the $hit out of it. I'm getting through the learning curve and starting to really get the power of the camera. Fun stuff.
