Fishing pole transport

I've done numerous things since I got pulled up for my bullbar mounted rod holder. I can fit two two piece rods between the rear headrests and the cargo barrier. can zip tie them in place if needed. But normally they just go on top of everything else.
Before I had a cargo barrier I would zip tie them (loosely) behind the headrests of the back seat and just leave them there just in case i went past a good spot.
For two piece surf rods (or single piece boat rods) I put them up each side and zip tie them to the grab rails and the top corner of the cargo barrier. they can get slightly in the way but i deal with it. I'll normally take the reels off when doing this.
over easter I managed to fit all my camping gear, esky, recovery gear, spare 33' tyres, 3 people, 2 surf rods and 4 other rods all inside my car.

This is what I did with my Subaru. It will be moving inside.
Cheap and it works wonderful, even when going 75 MPH down the freeway.
Only components missing in the picture are the bungie straps, and metal bar mounts which you can get a home depot for a few cents each.

I came up with a good idea that works for me. I drilled 2 tiny holes in rear left and right plastic panels behind rear windows. Attached a small hook on each side. I ran a string across to both hooks. After fishing I slide rods to the front and support them with a large O ring hanging from rear view mirror and the reel part sits on the string. I can bounce around from stream to stream with no worries of my rods getting crushed.:fishing:

I put together a in-rig system that holds 6x 7ft. rods no problem if I'm the only one in riding around. I biased it so that its more on the passenger side. I had a bunch of pictures from when I was putting it together in '08 but I seem to have lost them. I'll try to get some of how it looks loaded and empty for you.

Debating on whether or not I should carry rods inside T4R or on top. Dont really trust the rods being in the open on top of my truck, and was thinking about mounting a larger diameter pvc pipe to the roof rack. Has anybody done this?

This is basically what I do as well. No real complaints other than having a sunroof makes it a little more difficult... headliner/sunroof takes away a few of those inches off the top available space near the driver for the longer rods (fly rods/surf rods).

I built my own rack for the inside of my 5th gen.
I made an interior rod rack for my 5th gen. I'm working on a rear hitch haul that I'm going to be adding a few rod holders to for when we get there as well.
Made it out of a couple 1x3's or 1x4's(1x3 up front and 1x4 in the back) Cut the holes and used bungee cord to attach it to the handholds in the rear seat, and the clothes hooks in the back.

This held up better than I expected during a day of light off road between fishing spots.
A $10 hanger bar from walmart, and a $4 suction handle from harbor freight.

These are some very creative solutions. I need to implement one of them. For me, the days of having the rods between the passengers are done as far as I'm concerned.
I went fishing for Father's Day yesterday. I had all the gear for my family, who were meeting me later. I had six rods in the car. It became painfully obvious that I need to implement a fishing rod rack in my 4Runner. The sweet part will be that I can keep rods in there nonstop so if the opportunity arises to fish, I can go.

None of this stuff worked for one reason or another.
Looks like this new product on the market that was designed specifically for that will finally sole all the shortcomings of these solutions mentioned earlier.

I have a 4th gens and carry 7 rods with me.. 7 being lucky...plus 7 doors.... 7 chipmunks...7 minute ABS...
Anyway, I took my rear ceiling hooks off and put a tied loop of 550 cord between each and bolted them back down. I use that loop to connect a bungee cord. The center grab rails have tubular strap and a bungee cord running across the vehicle. I then bind the rods together with velcro ties and slide them between the roof hugging bungees and the roof.
I do pull the reels off and it is a pain... and the rods rattle and hit my girlfriends head. Cheap fix solution. The rods are not visible and not much chance of damage as they are in the vehicle, out of the sun, low flying birds, debris and thieves...
I used to roll with a travel case and it is just always in the way...
