Fishing pole transport

I fly fish which presents its own problems for rod storage. First off the reel is at the butt of the rod which makes some commercial options non-applicable and second most of my rods are 9’ and up. I’ve been pining for the Titan Rodvault but there’s some big bucks spent right there. If you’re a fly Fisher with $$$ to burn that thing is the way to go. I have used the pvc pipe method as previously mentioned and you can make those lockable by drilling a hole through the removable cap while it’s installed on the tube (drilling through both cap and tube) and using a long shanked padlock. The down side of the pvc is that it tends to sag when it gets real warm.

Yakima FatCAT4. I can easily hold 4 of my Ulua poles. I used to have a 6 on my Tundra but that was a bit excessive.

Wrapped w 3m type pipe insulation so rods aren't riding on pipe. I have notched the insulation so rods don't "slide" while driving. Use a bungee cord to secure them. Can load pics if you would like. Camping at the moment...

I've seen a lot of the 4" PVC pipe set ups, and it seems affordable. I dont want to use a open carry system because I normally have to drive hours to get to where the fish are, and dont want weather and such to potentially damage the rods and reels. I will try to build a 4" PVC system and post pictures. The main thing you will want is drainage holes in the PVC, but these will be mainly used for equalize changes in pressure, otherwise, the pressure changes that can effectively seal the endcaps on.
