Overland trails.. hardcore fun... :cowboy: It's more mountain than my truck gets to see on a regular basis LOL. Just want to get the TRD rims on.. some tires to match and get a Cobra 75 installed

I'm doing a Cobra 75 install this weekend. At least that's my plan... I picked-up a Diamond K-400 3/8 this afternoon at a Ham radio store, and I've got 18ft of coax, the 75, and a Firestik coming-in tomorrow afternoon!

... are you running the coax on the passenger or the driver side? I already have the roof light wires on the driver side so i was thinking about running the Cb on the passenger side. I'm also thinking it may be easier run behind the glovebox vs. the driver dash/steering column.Okki

I took a quick look today, and I'm likely going to run it on the passenger side to the center console. Not quite sure how yet, though.

Thanks. I just double-checked your thread, and I was glad to see you didn't have to remove the entire headliner for a clean install. I'm mounting the antenna on the passenger side to avoid any potential issues with my anticipated ladder. I'll be running the 75 through to the center console, so it shouldn't matter in the end on which side I run the coax. I think I'll mount the handset in a similar location as you, too.

Welks! Posted only in case you thought space would be a issue. I still prefer the Driver side for the simple reason that having the jack storage area made running the wires much easier (and my antenna is on that side) but other than that I agree you are ending up in the same place.
For the headliner we used a Trim tool which made getting unsnapping the headliner clips a snap (sorry!).

Give me a shout when ready as this is a beating to discover on your own. I installed my HAM radio last weekend and running wires under the carpet and to the console is tough as nails. Not like the old days at all. These dang cars have raised flooring, and the avoidance factor are the yellow wires (Airbags) dont want to get near them.

Once you get some relatively solid plans, let me know as you may be near Dallas (but north) about when I am ready to leave. Perhaps we could connect Raton NM or thereabouts. I have a great route up and over Medano pass, all off road, and then it drops you into the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Really cool place with the tons of camping spots up on the mountain or down below.

Holy crap, you weren't kidding. I was looking for some bright yellow wires, but then I realized the "yellow wires" are actually fluid filled PVC lines that look fairly thin. I was jabbing my screw driver in a few places that I didn't expect to find lines or airbags and was very surprised and lucky I didn't puncture something.
Decided to run the coax down the back near the hatch, through the wheel well, up to the B Pillar, then over to the center console. I've got the first few feet of coax coming-off the antenna wired, and was set to finish it all tonight, but I realized that my extension coax was male/male when I needed male/female. Dumb mistake. So, I'll be picking-up the correct cabling on Monday along with my Cobra (I hope! Shipping got dorked-up on that, too).

As I have mentioned before I have been every year with my 4Runner and not once have I heard anything negative about 4Runners coming to the summit. Granted we support the event as a sponsor every year. Jerad who is one of the main organizers has a nice 4th gen that he takes every year. I really wouldn't worry about it as it's all Toyota people who love to get out and enjoy their rides. I think the more FJ's, 4Runners and Tacoma's the better.

I am really looking forward to meeting all you darn yankees!! I hope to have my Shrockworks bumper on, but I am not really expecting it to get here in time. I am on the Group Buy right now and I think although sometimes we save a few hundred bucks on the GB, it also delays everything considerably.

Since I'm extremely jealous that I'm not going, I've been avoiding this thread. Jerks!
But- I thought I would help a bit with the CB coax routing. It's easiest to run it out the center console- towards the dash. Then pickup the cable in the footwells, the carpet pulls up with Velcro- and into the door sills. When you get to the rear door sill, pull the weatherstrip away from the rear door, pull out the rear jack panel and run a fish over to where you pulled the weatherstrip off. Pull it through into the jack area. Take the plugs off that hold the headliner, pull off the weatherstrip from the hatch- and fish the wire up into the headliner and out one of the rubber boots to the roof.

Thanks for the info on the footwell carpet though; I was thinking about running it behind the glove-box, but your route sounds easier.
